[0:00] I greet you in the name of Jesus this morning. It is good to be here.! To help us this week as we go through the week to make the right decisions. [0:40] We all have a calling. We all have a work that God would have us to fulfill. And are we focused on that? [0:51] Or are we easily sidetracked into monkey business? That's pretty good. Amen. Well, I greet you in the name of Jesus this morning. [1:09] And today I want to build on the message from last Sunday. [1:20] You know, Jesus, our Passover. Jesus came to this earth to do something no one else could do. [1:37] You know, the penalty for sin is death. And ever since Adam and Eve fell, the human race has been in bondage to the devil. [1:58] We are born with that sin nature. And, you know, in the Old Testament, they had the animal sacrifices. [2:14] But just think. I mean, logically thinking even, you know that an animal sacrifice, the blood of an animal, cannot pay for the sin of a human, can it? [2:32] It takes the blood of a human. And there is no human without blemish and without spot. [2:45] And so God himself provided the lamb. God himself came to earth to give his life. [2:57] God himself. I want to... We'll be starting in Isaiah this morning. You can turn to Isaiah 59. [3:12] And while you do that, I want to read a couple verses in Leviticus. Leviticus chapter 17. We have verse 11. [3:23] The life, your life, our human fleshly life, it is contained in the blood that flows through our veins. [4:03] All life on earth, the animal kingdom, humanity, all of it, our life is in our blood. [4:19] And so this is what God is saying here. And he instructed Israel that they would not... [4:29] They should not eat flesh with the blood. This... And he said, why? [4:41] Because the life is in the blood. And when these animals were killed for sacrifice, their blood was caught and it was taken and it was used for sprinkling and so on. [4:59] But the blood was taken for a sacrifice. And when Christ came to earth and when he gave his life, there on that Passover day, he shed his blood. [5:14] He gave his life and he gave it freely. He gave his life by shedding his blood for all humanity. [5:24] Now, in Isaiah 59, in Isaiah 59, we have here, I believe, this chapter shows the destitute condition of humanity. [5:50] Starting in verse 1, and we'll just... We'll read parts of this chapter. Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened that it cannot save, neither his ear heavy that it cannot hear. [6:11] But your iniquities have separated you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you that he will not hear. [6:26] For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity. Your lips have spoken lies. Your tongue has muttered perverseness. [6:37] None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth. They trust in vanity and speak lies. [6:49] They conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity. Verse 7, Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood. [7:00] Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity. Wasting and destruction are in their paths. As the way of peace they know not, and there is no judgment in their goings. [7:11] They have made them crooked paths. Whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace. Therefore is judgment far from us. [7:25] Neither does justice overtake us. We wait for light, but behold obscurity. For brightness, but we walk in darkness. [7:37] Verse 14. Verse 13. In transgressing and lying against the Lord and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood, and judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off, for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. [8:14] Yea, truth faileth. He that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey. And the Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment. [8:26] You know, just the verses that I've read here, doesn't this depict a terrible darkness? But that is the world that we live in. [8:38] You know, yes, we have our courts and all of that, and there is justice, but what he's showing here, what I want to say here is, I believe this shows a world totally devoid of God. [8:58] A people that have turned their back and walked away from God, and, you know, but they didn't get to this place all of a sudden overnight, but step by step by step until this is where they end up at. [9:22] A place where they build their past crooked. They build on their crookedness. [9:34] They build on their sin and on their iniquity. They feed on going their own way and their pride and their arrogance. They always, you know, self is a ruler. [9:50] What a darkness. What a darkness. Truth has fallen in the street. Iniquity cannot enter. [10:02] Truth faileth. You know, whenever truth cannot stand anymore, that is a dark place. [10:19] Now let's look at verse 16. And he, God, saw that there was no man and wondered that there was no intercessor. [10:36] God looked at this total darkness and there was no intercessor. There was no one to stand in the gap. There was no one to reverse the fallen state of man. [10:51] Therefore, his arm brought salvation unto him and his righteousness, it sustained him. [11:04] In other words, that was the condition of humanity. But then God sent a savior to be an intercessor and to rescue fallen humanity. [11:23] Verse 19, when the enemy shall come in like a flood, the spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. You know, Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. [11:36] And when the enemy comes in like a flood, you know, I believe that in the darkness, in the darkest time of history, Jesus came. [11:48] When the hour was right, when the day came, that pre-planned day that God had set aside, Jesus came. [12:02] And he came for us. Now let's turn to chapter 53. Talking about Jesus in this chapter, I think we'll start reading in verse 3. [12:19] We'll read the rest of the chapter here. He is despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. [12:31] And we hid, as it were, our faces from him. He was despised and we esteemed him not. You know, and thinking of the terrible condition of humanity, you know, and even the religious system could not, they could not accept Jesus. [12:57] Oh, there were some that did, but the system itself, the chief priests, the ones in charge, they rejected Jesus. [13:09] And we know that even after they were told the truth and told that Jesus had risen from the dead and he was no longer in that tomb, they concocted a lie and said, you go tell this. [13:24] And so that is the rumor that they spread. They were supposed to be the light of that nation and they put that nation into total darkness through that. [13:50] So that is the world that Jesus came to and they rejected him and he was despised and all of that. Now verse 4, Surely he hath borne our griefs, he has carried our sorrows, yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God and afflicted. [14:09] But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed. [14:21] Oh, we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth. [14:36] He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, as a sheep before shears is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment, and who shall declare his generation? [14:52] For he was cut off out of the land of the living, for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth, yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him. [15:14] He hath put him to grief. When thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. [15:32] He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied. By his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many, for he shall bear their iniquities. [15:48] Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he hath poured out his soul unto death, and he was numbered with the transgressors, and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. [16:11] You know, this portion brings it out so clearly. [16:25] Notice verse 10. It pleased the Lord to bruise him. God himself had come to earth in the form of Jesus Christ, and he came to be that perfect lamb, that spotless lamb without blemish, to give his life and to shed his blood for humanity, and it pleased the Lord to bruise him and to put him to grief. [17:01] His soul was offered for our sin. He was wounded for our transgressions. [17:12] He was bruised for our iniquities, and the chastisement of our peace was upon him. He paid for all of it. [17:23] He paid for the sin of all humanity, and he paid for you and for me. The chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed. [17:42] There's healing in his stripes. He has borne our griefs. He has borne our sicknesses, and carried our sorrows, our pains, and our transgressions, and all of it. [17:55] He bore it. He carried it. He took it to the cross, and it was nailed to that cross. Jesus, the spotless lamb of God. [18:11] You know, you hear people say, you know, they want to accuse the Jews of killing Jesus, and all of that as if Jesus, there would have been another way, and Jesus could have set up his kingdom and not shed his blood. [18:28] Those people are ignorant. They don't know. Somehow they've been blinded to the truth. Jesus had to die. Jesus had to shed his blood. [18:40] Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin, and we would always live in our sin. There would be no victory over that old self-life. [18:56] We'd be in bondage to self and to sin for our whole life and a lost eternity. Verse 6. [19:11] All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned everyone to his own way. You know, isn't this, isn't that right there? [19:24] Isn't that the bottom line of iniquity? The bottom line of the rebellion of the human race? We want our own way. We want what I want. [19:36] This old self, it has an agenda. It wants to look good. It wants people to look up to it. It wants to have its own way. That was all of us. [19:52] We've all gone astray. We've all gone our own way. And what did God do? He laid all our iniquity on Jesus. [20:04] All of our sin, all of our pride, all of our self, all of our selfishness, all of our big agendas that we have. [20:15] He laid it all on Jesus. And Jesus took it to Calvary. And it was nailed to his cross. [20:36] He was taken from prison and from judgment. You know, he was taken from one judgment hall to another. [20:49] It wasn't a sinless life and they couldn't find any witnesses against him. [20:59] It didn't matter. Nothing mattered that day. But they condemned him to die. They condemned him to die. [21:11] An innocent man. An innocent man. But he had to die to fulfill the plan of God. It pleased the Lord. [21:27] You know, God. God, looking at the darkness that covered the world. The darkness of sin and self and iniquity of the human race. [21:42] God, looking at that. It pleased him. It pleased him to die for humanity that day. [21:58] It's when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin. He shall see his seed. [22:11] You know, I believe that Jesus. Jesus knew, looking down through the ages, that there will be a church. [22:23] There will be a church. Right on down to the year 2026. There will be a church. [22:34] There will be a people that are bought by his blood. And that are serving him with all our hearts. Are we? [22:46] Are we? Are we giving him what he paid for? He paid for our life. [22:58] He paid for our all. He paid that we would lay down our own agenda. He paid that we would lay down our own will. And we would live our life for him. [23:12] Like Corinthians says, if one died for all, what less can we do but to live for him? Yes. [23:24] Yes. God will see of the travail of his soul, and he will be satisfied. [23:40] God was satisfied by the sacrifice of the blood of Jesus. And we want to look at that some more as we continue on. [23:59] But the blood of Jesus was the supreme sacrifice for the human race. And today, 1 John 1.9 says, that if we confess our sin, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [24:34] You know, if we confess our sin, we lay down that self-life and we come to him, God is legally, He's legally has to forgive our sin. [25:01] Why? Because it's paid for in Christ. When we come into Christ, we confess our sin, we lay down our own life, He eagerly receives us. [25:17] Why? Because that purchase price has been paid. It was what God demanded was blood. [25:31] He demanded blood without blemish, blood that was not contaminated by sin. It was the blood of His Son. [25:43] He shall bear their iniquities and the consequences of them also. [26:04] You know, there's consequences to a life of sin. And I'm not saying you won't maybe, you know, there's some things that you will reap even if you repent. [26:16] There's sometimes a reaping. But those consequences, the deep consequences, He bore them. [26:29] None of us, none of us will need to go to hell because of our sin. Jesus did. And He paid the price for our redemption. [26:51] Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He has poured out His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors, and He bare the sin of many, and He made intercession for the transgressors. [27:17] He is our intercessor. He paid that price. He bore our sin. Remember, in chapter 59, it said, there was none, but then God provided one. [27:31] that was Jesus. That was Jesus. Jesus was numbered with the transgressors. Why? [27:42] Because the sin of the whole world was put upon Him. God had to leave Him. He had to turn away from Him. [27:55] Why? Because the sin of the whole world came upon Him. Hallelujah. [28:07] What a Savior. What a Savior. The Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. [28:20] Let's turn to 1 Peter. [28:31] 1 Peter. chapter one he's talking here about our so great salvation he has begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead in chapter one verse three to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled that fadeth not away reserved in heaven for you that lively hope that we have because of the resurrection of Jesus you know Jesus didn't just die but like we like we heard last Sunday [29:52] Jesus arose from the dead triumphant over death hell and the grave triumphant over the devil that had this world locked down in darkness and sin and all of the things that we talked about in the first part of chapter chapter 59 all of that and a lot more than what we said that darkness that had engrossed the world Jesus broke it and that glorious light shined in now he's talking about our salvation I want to start reading here let's start in verse verse 9 receiving the end of your faith even the salvation of your souls of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you you know just think of the prophet Isaiah the prophet Ezekiel and David you know they got glimpses of a glorious future they got glimpses of the new covenant of the Savior coming to earth they got glimpses of it and they would have longed to know more and to know better and to see it in their day he says the prophets they inquired and they searched diligently and they prophesied of the grace that would come searching water what manner of time the spirit of Christ which was in them did signify when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow you know and just think of this you know those prophets they had the spirit of Christ within them and that spirit of Christ testified that's how they could write those things that they wrote it's because the spirit gave it to them to write it and they testified they prophesied of the sufferings of Christ and we looked at some of that and then they also got a glimpse of the glory that would follow you know and and as I was meditating on this and and reading and and studying and you know [33:17] I believe that the elders of Israel the Pharisees the scribes the Sanhedrin you know if if Jesus would have come out of nowhere he would have appeared as a king they would have accepted him that's what they were looking for but the way he came was not what they were thinking it wasn't what they were looking for yes there were some that took the scriptures and and saw that this man is fulfilling these prophecies but the leaders of Israel they rejected Jesus because he did not fit their agenda they were looking for a man to come they were looking for the Messiah to come and to overthrow the Romans and to establish his his rule in Jerusalem an earthly kingdom that's what they were looking for now as I was thinking of that they were looking for a Messiah without a cross isn't that what the modern church is looking for is looking looking for a Savior without a cross looking looking for salvation without a cross [35:06] Jesus said if any will follow me let him take up his cross daily and follow me but modern Christianity wants to avoid that they want to avoid the cross they want to be saved they want to have the power of God the power of the spirit but they don't want to accept the cross verse 11 here in 1 Peter 1 the sufferings come first and then the glory you know now for us for us we have to lay down our life like you know we read all those verses last Sunday of being buried with Christ and rising again and all of that we have to die to the old before we can have the glory of the new verse 12 it was revealed to the prophets that not unto themselves but unto us they did minister the things which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the [36:41] Holy Ghost sent down from heaven which things the angels desire to look into you know can you imagine the angels watching all of this take place you know and Jesus said well I could call ten legions of ten thousand legions of angels they would come and they would rescue me and I believe the angels were ready to go but Jesus Jesus chose to lay down his life no man could take it from him why because he had the power to save his life wherefore gird up the loins of your mind be sober and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of [37:42] Jesus Christ as obedient children not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance but as he which has called you is holy so be holy in all manner of conversation because it is written be holy for I am holy oh what's he saying here gird up the loins of your mind be sober hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought to us by the revelation of Jesus you know the grace of God you know I want to read that verse in Romans Romans 5 1 and 2 therefore being justified by faith we have peace with [38:42] God through our Lord Jesus Christ by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God we have access into this grace by faith as we put our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus and in his shed blood we enter into this grace we are justified by faith it is as we believe that Jesus gave his life for me as we believe that his blood paid for my sin that is how we enter in now Peter verse 14 as obedient children not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance but as he which is hath called you is holy so be holy in all manner of conversation because it is written be holy for [40:04] I am holy how many times do we falter at these verses but Jesus made all provisions for us we are made holy by his righteousness when we're born again we're born a new creation well I think we need to read the rest of this chapter we'll get into that hallelujah such a great salvation hallelujah if ye call on the father who without respect of persons judges according to every man's work pass the time of your sojourning here in fear in reverence for as much as you know you were not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers but with the precious blood of [41:31] Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot who verily was foredained! before the foundation of the world but was manifest in these last times for you who by him do believe in God that raised him up from the dead and gave him glory that your faith and hope might be in God seeing you have purified your souls and obeying the truth through the spirit and unfaint love of the brethren see that you love one another with a pure heart fervently being born again not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible by the word of God which liveth and abideth forever for all flesh is as grass and all the glory of man is a flower of grass the grass withereth and the flower thereof falleth away but the word of the Lord endureth forever and this is a word which by the gospel is preached unto you oh hallelujah we are born again when we believe when we put our faith and our trust in the [42:43] Lord Jesus we believe that he is the sacrifice for my sin personally me yes each one of us personally and we believe that he gave his life for me and that his blood will cleanse me and his blood will set me free born again not of corruptible seed but incorruptible you know when we're born again that seed of Christ comes into our heart it comes and it's born we're born a new creation in Christ Jesus that seed of the word that seed of Christ it it it it's birthed within us Corinthians says if we're [43:44] I'll just look at it it doesn't quite it doesn't quite come therefore if any man be in Christ he is a new creature old things are passed away behold all things are become new old things are passed away that old life it is nailed to the cross we when we're buried with him in baptism we're signifying that we've died to that old man and now we arise in newness of life just like the children of Israel Pharaoh was coming after them they're my slaves they are mine and I'm going to bring them back but when they came out on the other side of the Red Sea when they came out after baptism they had sealed their commitment to God [44:44] Almighty and Pharaoh drowned in the sea the waters of baptism we seal our commitment that we will live the new life we will live the new life the rest of my days I will not feed that old man I will keep him on the cross I will keep him on the cross daily when those temptations come I will deny the old man I will I will I will leave him on the cross he must be crucified and I will live the new life through the power of the Holy Ghost back back to verse 17 if you call on the father who without respect of persons judges every man according to his work you know someday we will give an account of what we've done in this life someday someday we will give an account you know [46:11] Hebrews this could have been in the message today but there's not time for everything but you know in Hebrews 9 it says you know that without the shedding of blood there's no remission and some other things that maybe we'll look at them later well I think we'll read this Hebrews 9 verse 22 almost all things are by the law purged with blood and without shedding of blood there is no remission it was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified by these notice what he's saying the the ark of the covenant the tabernacle the [47:14] Solomon's temple and all of that and in the worship that Israel had in the Old Testament that was a pattern of things in the heavens and that pattern was here on earth and it was purified by the blood of bulls and of goats and whatever blood of animals but the heavenly things themselves could not be purified with the blood of animals the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these for Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands like Aaron did and the high priest did every year they entered into the holy place with blood but [48:15] Christ those things were a figure of the true but Christ entered into heaven itself with his own blood now to appear in the presence of God for us hallelujah you know verse 14 how much more before this talking about the blood of a heifer that would purify then how much more shall the blood of Christ who through the eternal spirit offered himself without spot to God purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God hallelujah now Jesus he offered himself the end of verse 26 to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself to put away sin [49:23] Jesus when he died and he rose out of that tomb he arose from the dead he defeated the devil first John tells us that this is why Jesus came he came to defeat the works of the devil he came to defeat our enemy the devil that's why he came and all of his works and all of the works that he has done in humanity Jesus came to defeat him and today the devil can be defeated in your life if you will but stand on the blood of Christ and live that new life you can live a victorious life because of the victory of Jesus Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and he came to put away sin by giving himself that living sacrifice that that sacrifice he gave his life and now today we give ourselves a living sacrifice to him verse 27 as it is appointed unto men once to die but after this the judgment so [50:40] Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation so it is appointed unto men unto all of us unless the Lord returns beforehand we will all die and then the judgment and we will give an account of our lives and what we have done back in first Peter again we are redeemed by the blood of Jesus we are not redeemed by corruptible! [51:24] things as silver and gold but we are redeemed by the precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without spot and blemish it says here he was this was the foreordained plan of God before even the foundation of the world was laid he knew that humanity would fall and so he made a plan he made this plan to save humanity from the powers of the devil for ordained before the foundation of the world was manifest now for us who by him do believe in God that raised him up from the dead and gave him glory that our faith and hope might be in [52:31] God you know there's no other hope you know you can't earn your salvation yes I said we'll be judged by our works but you can never do enough good works to earn your salvation good works are a part of the redeemed life it's an automatic it's an automatic if we if we're redeemed by the blood of Christ then good works will flow from our life our faith and our hope is in God and in God alone there's no other hope there's no other plea there's no other name under heaven there's nothing else but Jesus Christ and him crucified that's our only hope that is how we live and that is how we overcome and that is how we live the [53:43] Christian life is by laying down our life and to live his life you know I this morning I I wrote down a few things here see if I can find them I want to read a couple verses in Hebrews 2 yet then I have a couple thoughts here in Hebrews 2 verse 9 says we see Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor that he by the grace of [54:49] God should taste death for every man he tasted death that we can live for it became him for whom are all things by whom are all things in bringing many sons under glory to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings Jesus is the captain of our salvation and it says here he was made perfect through suffering there's another verse that says he learned obedience by the things that he suffered but he is the captain of our salvation and why did he have to suffer because he wanted to bring many sons into glory for whom are all things all things are for [56:06] Jesus all things are by Jesus and to and he is bringing many sons under glory that's you and I today yes you women too sons sons of God Jesus is bringing us and he will take us safely home to glory but we are in this life already seated with him in heavenly places if we lay down our life for him bringing many sons to glory to follow Christ we must lay down our own will our plans dreams we must abandon we must abandon our own thinking we must abandon those things that we always strove for in the natural that which is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of [57:39] God have you given the Lord your future have you given him those lofty goals you had in life those plans that you had planned out for your life have you given them to the Lord Jesus have you abandoned your own ambitions your own plans your own will your own desires have you surrendered wholly unto God's will that's a place of brokenness and a place of trust a place that we come to that we trust God with our life we trust God with our future we trust God with our family we trust [58:41] God with each other we trust God for everything we trust him when we lay down our own agenda that is when he can bring his will he can use us for his desires he can use us for his work it is at that place and that place alone that this verse becomes a reality and we know that all things work together for good to them that love God to them who are the called according to his purpose it is only as we have surrendered our heart and life to his purpose it is only then that this verse can be a reality in our life how does that happen by giving ourselves a living sacrifice even as [60:03] Romans 12 says I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice holy acceptable unto God which is our reasonable service you know these things that I'm talking about it is only our reasonable service it is it is the least that we could do like Corinthians says you know if one died for all Jesus did then what less could we do but live for him live for him it is in this place of surrender that we become seated with Christ in heavenly places like Ephesians talks about anything less than this full surrender is idolatry you know [61:14] Jesus talked about people trying to enter in some other way I believe there's many people trying to enter in some other way but there's only one way and that's the way of the cross the way of the cross leads home it is the only way that will lead home it is the only way that you will ever fulfill the will of God in your life is as you keep that earth keep your old man on the cross crucified your will on the cross your desires your plans your wishes that his might be accomplished in your life a living sacrifice which is only our reasonable service and be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our mind so many people they want to conform that old man to please [62:26] God remember that old man can never please God it is only as it is crucified with Christ and it is on the cross oh what a lovely cross you know sometimes it's painful sometimes it hurts sometimes it's difficult but the end result is the life of Christ the life of Christ flowing through us flowing through us he can use us in that way in that place yes oh to be seated with him in heavenly places that happens when we lay down our own will our own desire our own plans and allow his to come forth in our life may the [63:35] Lord have his way in our lives today to him to him to him to him to him
