[0:00] In the name of Jesus this morning, the one who gave his life for us that we can be a part of the family of God. Amen. [0:11] Amen. And turn to the book of Hebrews this morning.! The book of Hebrews is a book of better things. [0:23] A lot of comparisons here. The Old Covenant and the New Covenant. And we will be looking at that this morning. [0:41] I think my title will be The Law of God in Our Heart. And, you know, in the Old Covenant, they had the law written on tables of stone. [0:58] But that really was not successful. Because there was no power to walk in that law. [1:10] But today, God's desire is that his word and his law is written in our heart. [1:21] And he will give us the power to overcome. In Hebrews 7, 19, it says, For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did, by the which we draw nigh unto God. [1:40] He goes on. He talks about Jesus and Jesus, our high priest. But then in verse 25, Wherefore, he is able also, Jesus is able also, To save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, Seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. [2:03] That Jesus is the mediator of the New Covenant. He is the one that brought this new covenant to earth and sealed it, signed it with his blood. [2:19] And while we're talking about covenant and testament, A testament is not in force until the death of the testator. [2:32] And so, this new covenant, this new testament that Jesus brought to earth, It became active. [2:47] It was brought into force when Jesus signed it with his blood. He shed his blood for us. Now, the law of God in our heart, How does that happen and why is that important? [3:04] So, two questions we hope to answer today as we go on. But in Hebrews chapter 8, I'm going to start with reading this verse, verse 10. [3:18] For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord. I will put my laws into their mind and write them in their hearts. [3:30] And I will be to them a God and they shall be to me a people. And there's prophecies. [3:41] We will read, we will look at a couple of those prophetic verses also. So, but this is what Jesus came to earth to do, To redeem humanity and to replace the old covenant that did not make anyone perfect, That did not bring humanity into the fellowship with God that he desired. [4:13] In verse 13 here he says, In that he saith a new covenant, he hath made the first old. [4:23] Now that which decayeth and waxes old is ready to vanish away. And so, when Jesus came, he took away the old and he brought in the new. [4:38] Not that we ignore the old testament, But the old testament law and the many things that are written there, They passed away. [4:54] And we'll look at some of that and why. But today, God's desire is to have a people where his word and his law is written in our hearts. [5:12] Written in our hearts. That the Holy Ghost can lead us and direct us and use us. Now to look at a couple of these prophecies. [5:23] We'll look at Jeremiah chapter 31. Jeremiah 31 and verse 33. But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel. [5:37] After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, And write it in their hearts, And will be their God, And they shall be my people. [5:50] And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, And every man his brother, Saying, Know the Lord. For they shall all know me, From the least of them unto the greatest of them, Saith the Lord. [6:03] For I will forgive their iniquities, And I will remember their sin no more. And then, In Ezekiel, There's another one. [6:17] You know, These, Can you Just think with me a little bit, How these prophets, They were prophesying in very dark days, In the nation of Israel. [6:33] The nation had apostatized, And in Jeremiah's day, It had gone into captivity. And yet, Here he came, And he was prophesying, Of a day that would come. [6:46] You know, And there's, There's verses in the New Testament, That tell us how those men of God, How they, They looked down through, Through the, Throughout time, And God gave them a glimpse, Of what was coming. [7:04] But they, Of course, Passed away, And never saw it in their day. But in Ezekiel 36, We'll read three verses here, Verse 25, Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, And ye shall be clean, From all your filthiness, And from all your idols, Will I cleanse you. [7:28] A new heart also will I give you, Any new spirit will I put within you. I will take away the stony heart, Out of your flesh, And I will give you a heart of flesh. [7:41] And I will put my spirit within you, And cause you to walk in my statutes, And you shall keep my judgments, And do them. [7:52] You know, These verses are, Are a tremendous promise, That, That God brought, That he gave this word, To, To the prophet. [8:05] And as we look at this, He says, I will, I will cleanse you, Cleanse you from your filthiness, Cleanse you from your idols, And not only cleanse, But he says, He will give a new heart, And a new spirit. [8:25] But then, The key, The key is in verse 27, I will put my spirit within you. [8:36] You know, That is what we are living in today, Is the Holy Ghost within us. And if we have him within us, And we're yielded to him, We have the law of God, And the very law giver, Within our heart, To direct our path, And to walk with us. [9:08] Now one more scripture, One more prophecy, Is in Psalm 40. Psalm 40, We'll read verse 6 through 8. [9:31] Sacrifice an offering, Thou didst not desire. You know, And just think with me, Of how God commanded, All the sacrifices, And offerings that they gave, That they made there, In the Old Testament, And all the animals, That they killed, To do their sacrifices. [9:53] But yet here, The prophet, King David, He says here, He writes here, Sacrifice an offering, Thou didst not desire. [10:05] Mine ears, Mine ears has thou opened, Burned offering, And sin offering, Hast thou not required. Then said I, Lo, I come, In the volume of the book, It is written of me. [10:24] I delight to do thy will, O my God, Yea, Thy law is within, My heart. It's a prophecy, Of Jesus. [10:41] Jesus, Came to do, The will of God, Says, I delight to do thy will, Thy law, Is within, My heart. [10:59] And I believe, That for us today, This, Is the key, To living, For God. To live, A life, That is pleasing, To God. [11:10] As we have, The Holy Ghost, In our heart, And he brings, The law of God, And he writes it, On our mind, And in our heart. [11:21] And he gives us, The power to live it out. Yes. Is it our delight, To do the will of God? [11:37] I believe it's in Philippians, There's a verse that says, He gives us, The will, Ah, It slipped my mind. [11:51] To will, And to do, His good pleasure. He works in us, That we will, That our will, Will be yielded to him. [12:03] That we will desire, To do his will, And to do, His pleasure, To do, To live our life, Pleasing. For it is God, Which worketh in you, Both to will, And to do, His good pleasure. [12:18] Yes. The spirit in us, If the spirit of God, Is in us, And we are yielded to him, We delight, To do, The will of God. [12:29] Is it your delight, To do, The will of God? Okay, Now let's go back to Hebrews, And we will, Read through, Some of this. [12:46] I think we'll read, Most of chapter 10, We'll just start in verse 1, And go through this. [13:02] For the law, Having a shadow, Of good things to come, And not the very image, Of the things, Can never with those sacrifices, Which they offered, Year by year, Continually, Make the commerce, Thereunto, Perfect. [13:20] You know, He tells us, In plain words, That the old covenant, It did not make, The people perfect. [13:34] It covered their sins, And they knew, That it was covered. But, Well, Let's just read on, He explains some of this. [13:45] For then, Would they not have ceased, To be offered, Because that the worshippers, Once purged, Should have had, No more conscience, Of sins. [13:56] But in those sacrifices, There is a remembrance, Again, Made of sins, Every year. For it is not possible, That the blood of bulls, And of goats, Should take away sins. [14:11] Wherefore, When he cometh into the world, He saith, Sacrifice and offering, Thou wouldest not, But a body, Hast thou prepared me. [14:21] And we read, Though, That prophecy, In Psalm, But a body, Hast thou prepared me. God prepared a body, For our Lord Jesus, To live in, While he was here on earth. [14:35] But that body, Was not only for him, To live in, While he was here, But it was also, Given to him, That he could die, For humanity. [14:48] Jesus, Was given, A human body, To live in, And then, To die in, And to lay down, His life, For us. [14:59] In burnt offerings, And sacrifices for sin, Thou hast had no pleasure. You know, And, And, You look at all the sacrifices, And, My mind goes to, When Solomon dedicated the temple, And, The thousands of sacrifices, Animals that they killed, To sacrifice to God. [15:24] But yet, He tells us here, That, God had no pleasure, In all of that. Then said I, Lo, I come, In the volume of the book, It is written of me, To do thy will, O God, Jesus came to earth, For one purpose, To fulfill the will of God, To, To, To lay down his life, That humanity, Can, Can be restored back, Into fellowship, With almighty God. [16:00] Above, When he said, Sacrifice, And offering, And burned offerings, And offering for sin, Thou wouldest not, Neither hadst pleasure, Therein, Which are offered, By the law. [16:14] Then said he, Lo, I come, To do thy will, O God. He taketh away, The first, That he may establish, The second. [16:26] Jesus, When he died, He, He, He took away, The first covenant. The first one, Is, Is, Is, Is, Nullified, By the second one. [16:40] It's like, Today, If you go, If you go, To an attorney, And you write a will, And this is now, Your last will, And testament, And when you die, That will come into effect. [16:54] If you wrote one, Five years ago, That one, Is no longer in effect, Because you wrote, A new one. That is how it was, When Jesus came, The old covenant, The old testament, Is null and void, And it is passed away. [17:12] And now, We live in the new. I come to do thy will, O God. Verse 10, By the which will, The will of God, We are sanctified, Through the offering, Of the body, Of Jesus Christ, Once for all. [17:35] Jesus, By giving his life, For us, Once for all, Did what all those sacrifices, Before him, Could not do. [17:47] What did he do? He sanctified us. He brought us. He bought us back. He paid the penalty, For our sin. He died for us. [18:00] You know, All of us, All humanity, Had the death sentence, Upon them. But he, Paid for it. Every priest, Standeth daily, Ministering and offering, Oftentimes, The same sacrifices, Which can never, Take away sins. [18:20] But this man, Jesus, After he had offered, One sacrifice, For sins, Forever, Sat down, On the right hand, Of God. [18:32] Yes, Yes, Jesus, When he ascended again, He sat down, At the right hand of God. Why? Because, His work, On earth, Was complete. [18:46] And we read that verse, Before already, That says, He can save, To the uttermost, He ever liveth, To make intercession, For us. [18:58] That's where he's at now. At the right hand, Of the Father, Making intercession, For us. He sat down, On the right hand of God. [19:11] Verse 13, From henceforth, Expecting, Till his enemies, Be made, His footstool. For by one offering, He hath perfected forever, Them that are sanctified. [19:25] That one offering, It perfects us. Yes, It perfects us, If we, If we will, If we will surrender to Him. [19:39] Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us. The Holy Ghost also, When He, When He's in our heart, He witnesses, That we are the children of God. [19:53] And, We might come to some of that in Romans yet, Here in a little bit. This is the covenant, That I will make with them, After those days, Saith the Lord. [20:07] I will put my laws into their hearts, And in their minds, Will I write them. And their sins and iniquities, Will I remember no more. [20:20] Now our remission of these is, There is no more offering for sin. You know, Jesus came, And He, Lay down His life, For us. [20:36] Now, There is nothing else, There is no other sacrifice, That we're looking for, Other than, The sacrifice, Of us, Giving our bodies, A living sacrifice, To Him, And living our lives, For Him. [20:52] Verse 19, Having therefore, Brethren, Boldness to enter into the holiest, By the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, Which He hath consecrated for us, Through the veil, That is to say, His flesh. [21:15] And having a high priest, Over the house of God, Let us draw near, With a true heart, In full assurance of faith, Having our hearts sprinkled, From an evil conscience, And our bodies washed, With pure water, Let us hold fast, The profession of our faith, Without wavering, For He is faithful, That promised, And let us consider one another, To provoke unto love, And to good works, Not forsaking the assembling, Of ourselves together, As the manner of some is, But exhorting one another, And so much the more, As you see the day approaching. [22:03] And He ends here, These last verses that we read, He gives us, He gives us some, Some very good instruction. He says, Let us draw near, With a true heart, In full assurance of faith, You know, Nothing doubting, But coming boldly, Unto the throne of grace. [22:28] He says, To, We have boldness, To enter into the holiest, By the blood of Jesus, By this new, And living way. [22:40] You know, Jesus, Jesus died for us, But He rose again, He is living, And seated at the right hand, Of the Father. [22:51] Yes, A new, And a living way, The new covenant, The new testament, We serve, A risen Savior. He is risen. [23:03] Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Let us hold fast, The profession of our faith. Let us, You know, He admonishes us, He says, Let us hold fast. [23:20] You know, Let's not, Let's not just, Take things for granted, And drift along in this life, But let us hold fast, Let us draw near to Him, With a true heart. [23:34] And then, He says, Let us consider one another, To provoke unto love, And to good works. You know, We need one another, We need to pray one for another, We need to provoke one another, Unto love, And to good works. [23:53] Yes, And He admonishes us, To not forsake the assembling, Of ourselves together, And so much the more, As we see, The day approaching. [24:08] Let's look one more time, At verse 16, He says, I will put my laws, Into their hearts, And in their minds, Will I write them. [24:18] This, I believe, Is God's will, And His desire, For His church, His people, In the New Testament time, Is that His spirit, Dwells within us, And the word of God, Dwells within us, And He directs our path, We are led by Him, And we'll be looking, At some of those things, As we continue on, In 1 John, 1 John chapter 2, Verse 20 says, But ye have an unction, From the Holy One, And ye know all things, How do we know all things? [25:14] Because we have an unction, Of the Holy One, We have the Holy Ghost, Within us, And He will, We will, We'll read it later, But in the Gospel of John, It says, He will bring all things, To our memory, Yes, He will bring, He will bring, What we need, He will remind us, Of the word of God, When we need it. [25:39] Okay, Let's go to verse, Verse 25, And this is the promise, That He hath promised us, Even eternal life, These things have I written unto you, Concerning them that seduce you, But the anointing, Which ye have received of Him, Abideth in you, And ye need not that any man teach you, But as the same anointing teaches you, Of all things, And is truth, And is no lie, And even as it hath taught you, Ye shall abide in Him. [26:20] Now, little children, Abide in Him, That when He shall appear, We may have confidence, And not be ashamed before Him, At His coming. [26:32] And ye know that He is righteousness, He is righteous, Ye know that everyone, That doeth righteousness, Is born of Him. The anointing that we have received of Him, Abides in us, And He will teach us, Are we teachable? [26:56] Can we hear the voice, Of the Spirit of God, When He speaks to us? He says, The same anointing teaches us, And is truth, And is no lie. [27:13] You know, The Spirit of God, It knows this word, It wrote this word, And if He is in our heart, He will bring this word to us, When it is needed. [27:26] If we have, If we have hidden it in our heart, And He abides in our heart, And He will bring His word, He will teach us His word, The Spirit of God, The voice, The word, They will always agree, The Spirit of God, What He says to us, Will always line up with the word of God, He will teach us His word, As we read this word, He will bring it to life, He will bring it to life in us, Yes. [28:06] Let's go to Romans chapter 8. Romans chapter 8, There is therefore now no condemnation, To them which are in Christ Jesus, Who walk not after the flesh, But after the Spirit, For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, Has made me free, From the law of sin and death. [28:33] Now let's look at these verses a little bit, Before we go on. He says, There's no condemnation, To those that are in Christ Jesus, To those who do not walk after the flesh, But they walk after the Spirit. [28:51] How will you walk after the Spirit? Well it is, Exactly what we've been talking about. His anointing, His Spirit of, The Spirit of God within us, His anointing upon us, His Spirit within us. [29:15] For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, Hath made me free from the law of sin and death. You know, We all want to be free from the law of sin and death. [29:31] But there's only one way, There's only one way that humanity can be free from that law of sin and death. And that is, As we are under the law of the Spirit of God. [29:48] Yes, When we are under the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus, The law of the Holy Ghost, That will set us free from the law of sin and death. [30:07] And if we have the Spirit of God, And we're led by the Spirit of God, We have His law in our hearts, We will walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh. [30:25] Now let's continue on here. For what the law could not do. Okay, now He's going to tell us Why the law could not accomplish the will of God. [30:40] He's going to tell us why the old covenant says God did not take pleasure in those sacrifices. And why not? [30:52] What the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh. You know, The law proved to humanity That we cannot live a life pleasing to God in the flesh. [31:09] In our own strength we can never please Him. It is only through the power of the Spirit of God. So the law, It was weak because it depended on the flesh. [31:25] The law did not bring the Spirit of God or the power of the Spirit to live a victorious life. But then, in an answer to this, God sent His own Son In the likeness of sinful flesh And for sin Condemned sin in the flesh. [31:52] That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us Who walk not after the flesh But after the Spirit. You know, The righteousness that the law desired. [32:07] The righteousness that You know, If you could have kept the law perfectly You would have been holy. You would have been righteous. But it was weak. [32:19] In that you could not keep the law perfectly. But now, That righteousness That the law desired. [32:30] That the law was after. It wanted to bring Into the lives of humanity. It is now fulfilled In us Who walk not after the flesh But after the Spirit. [32:45] For they that are after the flesh Do mind the things of the flesh But they that are after the Spirit The things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death But to be spiritually minded Is life and peace. [33:03] Because the carnal mind is enmity against God For it is not subject to the law of God Neither indeed can be So then they that are in the flesh Cannot please God. [33:22] In other words In our own strength In our unconverted state We can never please God It is only as we are born again By the Spirit of God And we have the Spirit of God In our heart That we can live a life Pleasing to God But ye are not in the flesh But in the Spirit If so be that the Spirit of God Dwell in you Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ He is none of his And if Christ be in you The body is dead because of sin But the Spirit is life Because of righteousness But if the Spirit of him That raised up Jesus from the dead Dwell in you He that raised up Christ from the dead Shall also quicken your mortal bodies [34:24] By his Spirit that dwelleth in you Notice this verse 11 The very Spirit that raised up Jesus Out of that tomb Out of the grave He now dwells in us He is the one that anoints us He is the one that dwells within us He is the one that brings the word of God Into our heart He is the one that writes the law of God On our heart He says He will also quicken our mortal bodies By his Spirit that dwelleth in us Therefore brethren We are not debtors to the flesh To live after the flesh For if ye live after the flesh Ye shall die But if ye through the Spirit Do mortify the deeds of the body [35:26] Ye shall live For as many as are led by the Spirit of God They are the sons of God For ye have not received the Spirit of bondage Again to fear But ye have received the Spirit of adoption Whereby we cry Abba Father The Spirit itself Bearing witness with our spirit That we are the children of God And if children then heirs Heirs of God And joined heirs with Christ If so be that we suffer with him That we may be also glorified together The Spirit of God in our heart It will bear witness to the fact That we are the children of God You know Do we appreciate What we have And that we have The Spirit of God [36:26] And that he Will lead us And direct us And he will walk in us That we can live A victorious life The old covenant The old covenant had no power To live a victorious life But the new covenant Brings with it the power To overcome the enemy The righteousness That the law was after It is now fulfilled By the church of Jesus Christ Walking in the Spirit of God Yes, being led by the Spirit You know The word admonishes us Not to quench the Spirit Not to grieve the Spirit of God Why? [37:26] Because if we do We will We will drift away We will go We will hinder his work In our heart Now let's go to the book of John In chapter Chapter 14 Actually in 16 He says In verse 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth It is expedient for you That I go away For if I go not away The comforter will not come unto you But if I depart I will send him unto you The comforter The Holy Ghost You know Jesus was here And he had his disciples And he taught his disciples [38:27] And they just could not Comprehend life without Jesus But here he was He was telling them And trying to prepare them And he was telling them That when he leaves He will send the comforter And the comforter Will be so much more Than Jesus being here In bodily form Verse 8 When he is come He will reprove The world of sin And of righteousness And of judgment In verse 13 He says How be it when he The spirit of truth Is come He will guide you Into all truth He will Still today He will guide us Into all truth Says he will not Speak of himself But whatsoever He shall hear That shall he speak And he will show us [39:28] Things to come He shall glorify me The spirit of God Will always Glorify Christ He will never Exalt He will never Exalt Any Human being Or even himself But he will always Exalt Christ For he shall receive Of mine And shall show it Unto you All things That the father Hath are mine Therefore said I That he shall Take of mine And show it Unto you In chapter 14 Well notice Yet Just want to Point out Again [40:28] In verse 13 Here in chapter 16 He said When the spirit Of truth Is come He will Guide you Into All truth Now in chapter 14 Verse 15 If ye love me Keep my Commandments And I will Pray the father And he shall Give you another Comforter That he may Abide with you Forever Even the spirit Of truth Whom the world Cannot receive Because it Seeth him Not Neither Knoweth him But ye Know him For he dwelleth With you And shall Be in you And I will Not leave you Comfortless I will come To you You know [41:29] The spirit Of God He is with Us today He is with Christians All around The world Everywhere There's people That That Belong to Christ He is there You know Jesus being Here in the Bodily form He could only Be at one Place at a Time But the Holy Ghost He is with All believers Everywhere Now let's Read again Here in Verse 23 If a Man loved Me He will Keep My words And my Father will Love him And we Will come Unto him And make Our abode With him He that Loveth me Not Keepeth Not my Sayings And the Word which He hear Is not Mine But the Father's Which sent Me You know And Jesus Said this In response To the Question How will You How will [42:30] The Spirit Of God Manifest Himself To us And not To the World You know The world Cannot Receive The Holy Ghost It is Only The born Again Believer That will Receive The Holy Ghost These Things Have I Spoken Unto You Being Yet Present With You But the Comforter Which is The Holy Ghost Whom the Father Will send In my Name He Shall Teach You All Things And bring All Things To your Remembrance Whatsoever I have Said Unto You The Holy Ghost In your Life Today He will Teach You He will Bring Things To your Remembrance You know When When you're When you're Out on The job And You You You Want to Witness To an [43:30] Unbeliever There Or you Want to Encourage Some Brother You know The Holy Ghost Will bring To your Remembrance The things That he Would have You to Say If you Are walking In that Way In the Holy Ghost That is Why He Writes His law In our Heart He Writes The word Of God In our Heart The Psalmist Said I Have Hidden Thy Word In my Heart That I Might Not Sin Against Thee And This Was God's Plan And His Desire Is That The Holy Ghost Will Be In Our Heart That We Can Be A People Showing For The Praises Of Our God To A Lost In A Dying World You Know I Didn't I Don't Have It In My Notes!
