[0:00] I greet you in the name of Jesus this morning. The one who is building his church.

[0:12] And hopefully we're helping. Hopefully we are a part of his great kingdom.

[0:23] Turn to Genesis 24. A couple weeks ago, I looked at the time when Abraham offered Isaac.

[0:47] And today, I'm going to look at another type here.

[0:59] Another chapter here. It would be Genesis 24. The time when Abraham sent Eliezer, his servant, to find a bride for Isaac.

[1:15] Isaac. And, you know, there's many types in this. We'll look at some of this.

[1:30] But, you know, Abraham, he is a type of God the Father. Isaac is a type of Jesus. And, you know, last couple weeks ago, we looked at when Abraham offered Isaac.

[1:47] And that being a type of God offering his son. And then Eliezer, a type of the Holy Spirit, coming and preparing a bride for Jesus.

[2:08] And we want to look at this when we're going to read quite a bit of this chapter. We'll skip parts of it. But we're going to read a lot of this chapter this morning.

[2:24] And Abraham was old and well stricken in age. And the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things. And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that rule over all that he had.

[2:38] Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh. And I will make thee swear by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth. That thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell.

[2:56] But thou shalt go unto my country and to my kindred and take a wife unto my son Isaac. And the servant said unto him, Peradventure, the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land.

[3:12] Must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest? And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou, that thou bring not my son thither again.

[3:25] The Lord God of heaven, which took me from my father's house and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me and that swear unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land.

[3:39] He shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence. And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath.

[3:53] Only bring not my son thither again. And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master and swear to him concerning that matter.

[4:07] And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master and departed. For all the goods of his master were in his hand. And he arose and went to Mesopotamia and to the city of Nahor.

[4:21] You know, a couple things I want to look at here before we go on. So Abraham, he called his servant, his eldest servant.

[4:34] And this servant, he ruled the house of Abraham. He ruled, well, in verse ten it says, All the goods of his master were in his hand.

[4:47] Everything that Abraham had. Everything that he owned. All those thousands of flocks and herds out there. And all the riches that he had.

[5:00] All his possessions were in the hand of this servant. As we go on, let's notice how this servant, whenever the Lord did something, whenever he answered prayer for him, he would worship.

[5:25] He would bow and he would worship. But anyhow, I think we'll just continue reading here. Verse 11. And he made his camels.

[5:36] So he had the ten camels. And he had them loaded. And he had some men with him. But he went to the city of Nahor. And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening.

[5:53] Even the time that women got to draw water. And he said, That I may drink.

[6:27] And she shall say, Drink. And I will give thy camels drink also. Let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac.

[6:38] And thereby shall I know that thou hast showed kindness unto my master. And just reading this. And he asked God that, You know, when I ask a damsel, when I ask this girl for a drink, then she will answer that I will give drink to your camels also.

[7:05] I will draw water for your camels. You know, and that was not a small matter. There were ten camels. And I read that each camel, after spending time out in the desert, they could drink 40 gallons of water each.

[7:26] So that's 400 gallons of water. That's a lot of work, right? Well, you just think of that.

[7:39] Looking for a bride. For Isaac. Isaac. He wasn't looking for some lazy little girl that was just going to play games all day.

[7:51] No. He was looking for one that could work. One that was strong. One that could stand the test of the desert.

[8:02] One that could be. That helped me. For Isaac. Isaac. Verse 15. And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.

[8:27] The damsel was very fair to look upon a virgin. Neither had any man known her. And she went down to the well and filled her pitcher and came up. And the servant ran to meet her and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.

[8:44] And she said, Drink, my lord. And she hasted and let down her pitcher upon her hand and gave him drink. And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also until they have done drinking.

[9:00] And she hasted and emptied her pitcher into the trough and ran again unto the well to draw water and drew for all his camels. And the man wandering at her held his peace to wit, whether the Lord had made his journey prosperous or not.

[9:18] And, you know, don't you think this man, it says here, he wandered.

[9:28] He just looked at her in amazement. God had already answered his prayer. And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold.

[9:49] And, you know, just look at this. So, all she had done was she drew water for the camels and in an obvious way answered his prayer.

[10:11] So, in his heart, I believe he was already convinced this is the one. God has led me. God has answered my prayer. And so, he gave her these gifts.

[10:24] And those ten shekels weight of gold, that's approximately four ounces of gold.

[10:39] And you just do the math and what that was worth, what it's worth today. Drawing 400 gallons of water and what's your pay, $8,000 or something.

[11:01] And then he said, Whose daughter art thou? Tell me, I pray thee, is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in? And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel, the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor.

[11:20] She said, Moreover unto him, we have both straw and provision enough and room to lodge in. And the man bowed down his head and worshipped the Lord.

[11:33] And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth. I, being in the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master's brethren.

[11:48] And the damsel ran and told them of her mother's house these things. So here she ran home to tell her family about this man that she had met at the well.

[12:03] But notice, so the servant, he bowed his head and he worshipped. Then he said, Notice what he said, I, being in the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master's brethren.

[12:20] You know, God desires to lead us. He wants to lead us by his spirit. But, you know, this man, if he would have, if he would have got the camels already and he would have sat there, you know, maybe just, you know, out there by Abraham's stuff and he would have got the camels ready and said, Now, Lord, now you lead me.

[12:45] You know, he said, I, being in the way, you know, if we just sit in our easy chair, God can't lead us far, can he?

[12:56] But if we get up and we start going the way that we know to go, Abraham had told him where to go, and so he went. He went and he said, I, being in the way, as he got there, I believe the Lord directed him to the well.

[13:14] He directed him to the right well. I don't know how many wells were there in this city, but he directed him to the right well, and he brought the right girl to the well at that time, the one that God had chosen.

[13:31] I, being in the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master's brethren. You know, Nahor was Abraham's brother, and Rebekah would have been his granddaughter.

[13:45] Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban, and Laban ran unto the man, unto the well. And it came to pass, when he saw the earring, and bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah, his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me, that he came unto the man, and behold, he stood by the camels at the well.

[14:17] And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the Lord, wherefore standest thou without? For I have prepared the house, and room for the camels. The man came into the house, and he ungirded his camels, and gave straw and provision, hay for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men's feet that were with him.

[14:42] And there was set meat before him to eat. But he said, I will not eat until I have told mine errand. And he said, Speak on. And he said, I am Abraham's servant.

[14:56] You know, notice here. Notice here, this servant was on an errand. He was on an errand, and though it would have made sense to sit down and eat, and to eat, and to have fellowship, and discuss the journey, and all of that, he wasn't going to get sidetracked.

[15:20] He wasn't going to get sidetracked. No. Before he even sat down and ate a meal, he wanted to tell them why he was there. He was about the master's business.

[15:33] And he said, I am Abraham's servant, and the Lord hath blessed my master greatly, and he has become great.

[15:48] He hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and men's servants, and maid's servants, and camels, and ossos, and Sarah, my master's wife, bare a son to my master when she was old, and unto him hath given all that he hath.

[16:07] And he goes on, and he recites the story. He rehearses the whole occasion of how Abraham had sent him.

[16:25] And even Abraham's faith, when Abraham said, I will, the Lord before whom I walk will send his angel with thee and prosper thy way.

[16:40] You know, Abraham is known as the father of faith. And this, this instance of, of finding a wife for Isaac, I believe that Abraham, he knew in his heart that God would provide.

[17:01] And he trusted his servant, the one that he had entrusted all his goods to, who entrusted him to, to do this, and to, to do this, this task, to, to go on this journey.

[17:18] And it's not, not just a, a small journey. It was like, somewhere here, I have it written down, it's 450 miles, approximately.

[17:29] And with camels, it would take 25 to 30 days to make this trip. And so, here he was, four weeks after he left home.

[17:44] And he had finally arrived. And he wouldn't even sit down until he had told his errand. So let's skip on down.

[17:56] Let's start again in verse 48. Here he, he finishes, about how he had met Rebegah at the well, and he gave her the earring and the bracelets.

[18:15] And I bowed down my head and worshiped the Lord, and blessed the Lord God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter unto his son.

[18:31] And now, if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me, and if not, tell me that I may turn to the right hand or to the left.

[18:43] Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the Lord. We cannot speak unto thee, bad or good. In other words, they recognized that this was God who had done this.

[19:00] God had brought this man to their house, and God had set this up. And so, we cannot speak to thee, bad or good.

[19:12] Behold, Rebekah is before thee. Take her, and go, and let her be thy master's son's wife, as the Lord has spoken.

[19:22] And it came to pass that when Abraham's servant heard their words, he worshipped the Lord, bowing himself to the earth. You know, here he was in the midst of this family and servants and all that.

[19:39] And when he heard that positive response, he bowed and he worshipped God. He worshipped God. You know, and I was reminded, there's a verse in Psalms that says that God inhabiteth the praise of his people.

[19:58] God inhabiteth the praise of his people. And so here, as he was here with Laban and Bethel and the whole family there, the presence of God, I believe, came into that house.

[20:15] Hallelujah. Yes. And just think of this servant. This servant. He worshipped the God of Abraham.

[20:32] He knew God. He knew that the God of Abraham was the true God. And I believe he had a relationship with God even as Abraham did.

[20:46] So he worshipped the Lord bowing himself to the earth. And the servant brought forth jewels of silver and jewels of gold and raiment and gave them to Rebekah.

[20:58] He gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things. And they did eat and drink. He and the men that were with him and tarried all night.

[21:08] And they rose up in the morning and he said, Send me away unto my master. And her brother and her mother said, Let the damsel abide with us a few days at the least ten.

[21:21] After that she shall go. You know, and wouldn't that make sense even? You know, I mean, you got here yesterday and now this morning you want to leave already?

[21:37] We didn't know anything about this till yesterday and now you are saying you want to leave right away. Well, what was his answer?

[21:48] He said, Hinder me not. Seeing the Lord hath prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my master. Hinder me not.

[22:03] Don't hinder the Holy Spirit. Don't quench the Spirit. Don't grieve the Spirit of God. But when he speaks, be obedient.

[22:16] They had asked for ten days. But he said, Hinder me not. Seeing the Lord has prospered my way. Send me away that I can go back to my master.

[22:27] And they said, We will call the damsel and inquire at her mouth. And they called Rebecca and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man?

[22:39] And she said, I will go. You know, just consider this.

[22:53] Isn't the Holy Spirit still asking us and asking all people today, Will you go? Will you go?

[23:04] Will you go with this man? Will you go where? You know, there's, you know, there's this man. He's way out there. He's out in this other country.

[23:16] It'll take us about a month to get there. I've told you about him. I've told you of his riches. I've told you of his, of all the flocks and the herds and the silver and the gold.

[23:29] I've given you, I've given you these gifts to prove who I am and who this man is. But there's this man over there.

[23:40] He needs a, he needs a wife. He needs a helpmate. And I'm here. I'm here to find that bride and to take her home to Isaac.

[23:55] You know, the Holy Spirit is here today to find a bride for Jesus. And he's asking us if we will go, will we follow him? Will we be faithful to him?

[24:08] Will we allow him to lead us? Will we say yes? Will we go? And she said, I will go.

[24:20] I will go. Hallelujah. And they sent away. You know, they didn't argue.

[24:32] But they let her go. They sent away Rebecca, their sister and her nurse and Abraham's servant and his men. And they blessed Rebecca and said unto her, Thou art our sister.

[24:46] Be thou the mother of thousands of millions and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them. And Rebecca arose and her damsels and they rode upon the camels and followed the man.

[24:59] And the servant took Rebecca and went his way. The servant took Rebecca and went his way.

[25:11] And Isaac came from the way of the well Leheroi for he dwelled in the south country. And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at eventide.

[25:23] And he lifted up his eyes and saw and behold the camels were coming. and Rebecca lifted up her eyes and when she saw Isaac she lighted off the camel for she had said unto the servant what man is this that walketh in the field to meet us?

[25:43] And the servant had said it is my master therefore she took a veil and covered herself and the servant told Isaac all things that he had done.

[25:54] And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent and took Rebecca. She became his wife and he loved her and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

[26:11] I want to go back and I want to go look at a few things here. You know thinking of the servant and as being a type of the Holy Ghost.

[26:30] You know in the Gospel of John the Gospel of John here in 15 verse 26 says but when the Comforter is come whom I will send unto you from the Father even the Spirit of Truth which proceedeth from the Father he shall testify of me and ye also shall bear witness because ye have been with me from the beginning.

[27:02] So the Comforter the Holy Ghost he is sent forth and this servant he was there with and he didn't talk of his own self he didn't talk about those those ten camels and all the loads of riches and gold and silver that he had brought along and how rich he was no but he talked of Abraham and Isaac and of all that they had and all of their glory and all of that the Holy Ghost will never glorify himself but he will glorify Jesus and he will draw all men unto Jesus and in chapter in John chapter 16 verse 13 how be it when he the spirit of truth is come he will guide you into all truth for he shall not speak of himself but whatsoever he shall hear that shall he speak and he will show you things to come he shall glorify me for he shall receive of mine and shall show it unto you all things that the father hath are mine therefore said I that he shall take of mine and shall show it unto you now remember this servant he had these camels and he had loaded them with goods he had loaded them with gifts and he came he came there he came to to the city of Nahor and

[28:40] Laban there and he came to their house and he gave them gifts he gave them these gifts but it was just you know Ephesians says Ephesians says that the Holy Spirit is the earnest of our inheritance you know he he gave he gave her these small gifts you might say though they were worth thousands and thousands of dollars he gave her these gifts and he also gave gifts to her brother and her mother but this was just a small token of the riches of Abraham and Isaac it's the same with us today we have the Holy Ghost and what we have the gifts that we have and the callings we have and all of this is just a small token of our inheritance that we will someday receive in glory are you looking forward to the marriage supper of the land hallelujah hallelujah you know you know the servant he brought he brought

[30:12] Rebecca to Isaac and he took her as his wife someday someday we will experience the fullness of the glories of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ the servant he said I cannot sit down I don't want to eat until I have told my errand he talked about the father Abraham and about the son Isaac you know the holy ghost will talk about God and he will talk about the son Jesus and he will glorify them and you know the verse we read says he will bring of mine and show it unto you he will bring the riches of heaven he will bring them to us as we need them blessing blessing whatever our need is he will meet that need you know the servant he didn't want to get sidetracked but he was on an errand he was on a mission and he was not going to turn he was not going to turn aside until he had fulfilled that mission you know it was up to them how they would answer they could have said no

[31:56] Rebecca could have said no and I believe that if they would have he would have kept you know he would have gone on he would have found someone somewhere but they you know how could you say no after this servant had explained everything and he worshipped there in their midst and you know they the response that they had but yet Rebecca herself yet had to respond and it's such a blessing just think of Rebecca she probably had her hopes and her dreams she probably dreamed of having a family someday she might have had her own ambitions she might have had her own thoughts but all of a sudden here's this man telling me about someone

[33:10] I may have you know they may have heard they probably had heard somewhere down through the years they probably got a little word from the land where Abraham was that yes Abraham had a son and whatever but all of a sudden here's this man and he's looking for a bride for Isaac and her answer was I will go now in verse Genesis 24 verse 61 and Rebecca arose and her damsels and they rode upon the camels and followed the man the camels that Eliezer provided they rode on those camels it says and they followed the man and when she followed the man what does it say the servant took

[34:20] Rebecca he took Rebecca and he went his way you know if we're gonna if we're gonna follow the Holy Ghost if we're gonna follow his leading if we're gonna allow him to lead us in our lives we must also allow him to take us we must leave behind all we must leave behind everything that would that would hinder us that would tie us down everything that that would be a hindrance in our life that would keep us from completely following the servant knew the way he chose the way and he went the way that he decided Rebecca did not say oh but I want to stop in here in this place you know

[35:24] I heard there's this whatever here over there over here in this town I'd like to see them while we're passing by anyway can we stop here for a day no and she didn't ask him are you sure you're going the right way are you sure you know where you're going there was none of that she followed the man and she allowed him to take her and to take her for about four weeks across deserts mountains rocks rivers rocky trails whatever they encountered it doesn't say that she ever questioned you have enough food to get us there are you sure you have the provisions the water that we need the food that we need are you sure we're not going to perish in the desert no none of that none of that you know if we could if we could give ourselves to our

[36:57] Lord and allow his spirit to take us and to lead us and use us and to take us on this journey without questioning without doubting without turning aside oh if we could even as Rebecca did what a blessing our lives could be in John chapter 12 verse 24 verse 24 verily verily I say unto you except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die it abideth alone but if it die it bringeth forth much fruit he that loveth his life shall lose it he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal if any man serve me let him follow me and where

[38:01] I am there shall also my servant be if any man serve me him will my father honor just look at this you know if Rebecca would have refused to go if she would have refused to die to her dreams back there where she lived if she would have hung on to some of those she would have never fulfilled the plan of God in her life she could have never been the bride of Isaac but she allowed all of that old life to die she left it behind and she went if we will die to our old self we can bring forth much fruit but if we hang on to our old life if we hang on to those things that we've always had if we hang on to that old life to our own life to our own things to what we can be in our own strength to the things that we have become familiar with to the things that we've always lived with if we hang on to those things we will never accomplish the will of God we will never come out into the fullness of what

[39:53] God has for us if we will doubt the leading of the Holy Ghost as he's taking us through some desert or maybe some storm hits and we ask him do you know where you're going are we still on the right track he knows a way he knows he will never leave us or forsake us he will get us there Hebrews I don't get a couple of verses out of Hebrews Hebrews chapter 12 says that he Jesus looking unto

[40:56] Jesus in verse 2 the author and finisher of our faith Jesus he's the author and he's the finisher he he he authored this way and he's the finisher of it in chapter 7 and verse 25 it says wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them he ever liveth he's the author and the finisher of our faith and he ever liveth to make intercession for us in Philippians 1 6 he says being confident of this very thing that he which has begun a good work in you will perform it unto the day of

[41:59] Jesus Christ he that has begun this work in us the one that has saved us the one that has put his Holy Ghost upon us that same one Jesus he is able says he he that has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ the Holy Ghost within us he will carry us through he will take us all the way to glory he will take us someday just like the servant he brought Rebecca there and there to Isaac and he brought her there and he told Isaac all that had happened and here she is the one that has answered our prayers here she is and someday the Holy Ghost will get us to heaven he will get us there to the marriage supper of the lamb if we will be faithful if we will not be sidetracked if we will not go our own way but if we will allow the

[43:10] Holy Ghost to take us someday he will get us there it might be a while it might take it might be a journey it might be through desert storms it might be through mountains and through rivers and all of that but someday we'll get there amen hallelujah he is able to save to the utter most to save to the utter most he is able he is able yes hallelujah in Ephesians 3 verse 19 says and to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge that ye might be filled with all the fullness of

[44:12] God not to him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that work in us unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages world without end amen oh hallelujah he is able to do exceeding abundantly more than we can ask or think he is able to take us through he is able to provide he is able to sustain he is able to heal he is able to meet our every need hallelujah you you know you know we have the holy ghost we have gifts of the spirit but it's just a small little down payment of what we'll receive someday and what's available for us today let's look again in in John chapter chapter 16 talks about the comforter verse 13 how be it when he the spirit of truth is come he will guide you into all truth he will guide us into all truth if we will will will if we will follow him and we allow him to take us even as the servant took

[45:51] Rebecca he will guide us into all truth he will not speak of himself the Holy Ghost will not speak of himself but he will talk of the riches in glory he will talk about the redeemer Jesus and he will talk about God and all the riches that are there in glory and he says here but whosoever but whatsoever he shall hear that shall he speak the Holy Ghost has a direct line to heaven and whatever he hears that's what he's gonna speak and he will show you things to come he shall glorify me the Holy Ghost will always glorify Jesus and if we're full of the Holy Ghost we will always glorify Jesus we will never bring glory to ourselves even as the servant did not bring glory to himself but he talked about the glories of Isaac and Abraham and their riches and all their flocks and herds and all the glories of the land of Canaan that's what he talked about he shall glorify me for he shall receive of mine and shall show it unto you all things that the father hath are mine therefore said I that he shall take of mine and shall show it unto you oh hallelujah how much do you think are the riches of God the father what do you think are the riches of glory you know the streets are paid with gold and they walk on it as if it's nothing it has it has no value because it's everywhere hallelujah the things of this world they're worthless in heaven but the things that we need look at this all things that the father hath are mine whatever whatever whatever all the riches of heaven they belong to Jesus and what does he say here he says the holy ghost will take of mine and show it unto you you know the servant he had those camels loaded with gold and silver and I don't know what all it says raiment and who knows what all he had but the finest of the land of
