[0:00] I greet you in the name of Jesus this morning, the one who has set us free, right? Hallelujah. Last while I've been getting a burden concerning prayer.

[0:30] And probably partly because of some of the battles that we've been facing, the things we've been going through.

[0:41] And, you know, I just want to bring this today. Let me say like this, this message this morning is just the tip of the iceberg when we look into this word and we look at prayer.

[1:05] Prayer is, how will I say? Prayer is, how will I say? All Christians pray. There is no such thing as a Christian that does not pray.

[1:23] We'll look at some of that. But, you know, many people today, they go through life and they think they don't have time to pray.

[1:40] They think they, the Lord takes care of them and he does. But, the Lord wants us to bring our cares and our petitions to him.

[1:56] Ian Bounds said that a short devotions cuts the pipe of God's full flow. And there's a lot more to that quote.

[2:08] But, maybe sometime we'll bring the whole quote. But, I recommend, I recommend reading Ian Bounds' books on prayer.

[2:26] Time. Time. Very important. What do you do with your time? Do you, when you come to the Lord within your daily devotional?

[2:40] You know, I, as I was preparing for this morning, the thought just came, the curse of the devotional book. You know, or you have on your phone, you have this devotional.

[2:56] It's one verse and a paragraph. And, you read through that in three minutes or less and you're done. You know, is that really a relationship with God?

[3:13] Is that really learning to know him? Is that really praying without ceasing? You know, there's so much admonition in the word.

[3:26] And, that's what we will be looking at this morning. Jesus gave us many promises. And he said, if we ask, we will receive.

[3:40] If we seek, we will find. If we knock, he will open the door. He said, ask whatever you will and it shall be done unto you. But, I believe that, you know, if we, in our busy schedule, we run to the Lord and we give him a one minute prayer or a five minute prayer, you actually think you will receive the full benefit.

[4:12] I find in the book of Acts that the church of Acts was a praying church. You know, in Acts 1, it says, These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication with the women and Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

[4:32] They were all in one accord before the day of Pentecost when the Holy Ghost came. In chapter 4, it says, And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord again, and said, Lord, thou art God which has made heaven and earth and the sea and all that in them is.

[4:54] And they went on. But, I just want to point out a few of these things and how the church in Acts, they were in one accord and they came to God with every need.

[5:05] And their needs were met and they had power to witness and to preach the gospel. Peter, when he was in prison and the angel brought him out, Why did God send an angel to bring out Peter that day, that night?

[5:30] Well, and Peter, when, you know, the angel brought him out and then he just left him. And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John, whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying.

[5:46] You know, they were going to kill Peter the next morning. However, there was a church that prayed. There was a church that prayed.

[5:57] You know, if the church would have said, well, my, it's too bad. We need Peter. But, you know, the church was still praying when he got there in the middle of the night.

[6:11] Amen. Amen. Jeremiah 29, 13.

[6:23] And you shall seek me and find me when you shall search for me with all your heart. In Mark, Jesus said, Therefore I say unto you, what things sever you desire when you pray, believe that ye receive them and ye shall have them.

[6:43] James says, Confess your faults one to another and pray one for another that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

[6:58] In 1 John says, Now, turn with me to Luke 18.

[7:12] In my studies, I, you know, if you will just look through the epistles that Paul wrote, you will find that our brother, the apostle Paul, was a man of prayer.

[7:33] And he believed in prayer. And he shares some of his prayers. He shares some of the things he prayed for. And there's many prayer requests in those epistles.

[7:46] And in those letters that he wrote to the churches, he asked them to pray for him. You know, we look at Paul and, you know, in the history that we know.

[7:59] You know, he might very well be the most effective, in our way of looking at least, and the most successful apostle and missionary in the New Testament.

[8:12] But he was a man of prayer. And he was a man that was humble enough to ask for prayer and to admit that he needed prayer.

[8:26] And we'll be looking at some of that later. But Luke chapter 18, And Jesus speak a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray and not to faint.

[8:40] You know, and as I look at this, Jesus said that men ought always to pray and not faint. You know, when we face the hard times of life, and we go through these trials, and we're hit by the enemy, and these attacks come, and how do we respond?

[9:04] How do we respond when we're attacked by the enemy? Do we try to hide? Do we turn away?

[9:15] Do we cower and run for a corner to get away? What is our response? Jesus said that we need to always pray and not faint, whatever the situation.

[9:30] And sometimes in these attacks, we need to pray, and then we also need to stand firm and not retreat.

[9:48] Verse 2, There was in a city a judge which feared not God, neither regarded man. There was a widow in that city, and she came unto him saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

[10:01] And he would not for a while, but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God nor regard man, yet because his widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

[10:17] And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith, And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them.

[10:34] Notice what Jesus said here. He will avenge his own elect, which cry day and night. Pray without ceasing.

[10:47] Do not give up. Do not turn back. Do not wither under the attack of the enemy. But keep on keeping on, and crying to God, and bringing your prayers and petitions to him, crying unto God day and night.

[11:07] I tell you that he will avenge them speedily, nevertheless, when the Son of Man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

[11:17] Jesus asked the question, when he comes, when he returns, will he find faith on the earth? Will he find persistent faith?

[11:28] Will he find a people that are strong in faith, and that have trusted him, and walked with him, and not retreated in the face of the enemy, in the face of attack, in the face of pure evil, that we are facing today?

[11:45] Do we stand for truth and right? Will he find faith on the earth? Will he find us faithful in that day? It is not to him that starts the race, but it is the one that overcomes, and is faithful unto the end.

[12:03] Persistence in faith. Now let's continue here. And he spake this parable unto certain, which trusted in themselves, that they were righteous, and despised others.

[12:23] Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, the other a publican. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

[12:43] I fast twice in the week. I give tithes of all that I possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes into heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

[13:01] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone that exalteth himself shall be abased, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

[13:17] Now let's go back. Look at verse 9. He spake this parable for a certain reason. He spoke it to those that trusted in themselves.

[13:31] You know, and I will say today that one of the lacks of prayer in the modern church, in the church today, is people that trust in themselves.

[13:44] They trust in their good works. They trust in their whatever it is that they proclaim. You know, our only trust is in Jesus.

[13:56] That's the only confidence we can have. That's the only place that we can put our faith and our trust in is in him. Notice this Pharisee.

[14:11] It says, he prayed thus with himself, I thank thee that I am not as other men are. and he goes through this list or even as this publican.

[14:23] You know, a man that did not have any needs. Like Revelation says, that these people, they thought they are rich and increased in goods and have need of nothing.

[14:40] Once we get to the place that we think in ourselves that we don't have any needs, we're just like this Pharisee.

[14:53] He was self-sufficient. He had everything he needed. And what happened? His prayer didn't go further than the ceiling.

[15:05] Why? Because he prayed with himself. He didn't come to God in humility. He didn't come to God and allow him to show him his heart and his need.

[15:23] The publican, what a blessing. The publican standing afar off would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven but smote upon his breast saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

[15:46] This man was justified. The man that saw his need, the man that came before God with an honest heart, that's the man that was heard by God.

[16:02] Godころ with gusto doing withLet Roy chapter 2 verse 1 he says I exhort therefore first of all you know number one on the list number one on the list if we're going to be children of God if we're going to walk with him if we're going to serve him number one on the list is what it's prayer it's our relationship with God it's our communication with with him first of all supplications prayers intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men for all men that we that we bring all our cares and petitions to him that we bring everything to him this for kings and for all that are in authority that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty for this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our savior you know and and we talked about some of these things the other Wednesday night but but these very things are threatened in our day we're the Christianity the gospel the Bible

[17:58] God is under attack in this world and in this nation but God would have all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth for there is one God and one mediator between God and men the man Christ Jesus now I'm going to read a couple verses in James it's going to quote this and go on but I believe I want to read here chapter 4 verse 3 says ye ask and receive not no verse 2 ye lust and have not ye kill and desire to have and cannot obtain ye fight and war yet ye have not because ye ask not you know over the years I've been convicted many times you know there's something that it looks impossible it looks impossible to achieve that it looks impossible to have that but this verse comes to mind you know we have not because we ask not and the next verse says ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss that ye may consume it upon your lusts you know number one is if our heart is right with God if we are walking with Him if we're full of the Holy Ghost and our desire is His desire we're not we're not desiring things because you know just to make us look good or just to consume upon our own lusts but our heart is the heart of God

[20:06] I believe we must boldly come to the throne of grace and He will answer James says here ye have not because ye ask not you don't ask why?

[20:25] because you're self-sufficient why? because you don't humble yourself before God to ask Him we don't ask because there's something in between us and God there's something standing in the way verse 4 ye adulterers and adulteresses know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God if we're a friend of this world then we can expect that our prayers won't be answered we can't expect God to hear and answer ye adulterers and adulteresses I believe He's talking about spiritual adultery yes it includes the physical adultery but first of all spiritual adultery that has drawn us away friendship with the world is being an adulterer whosoever whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God this is very strong language but it's the word of God if you are a friend of this world you are the enemy of God do ye think that the scripture saith in vain the spirit that dwelleth in us lusts us to envy you know you know if you're born again and the Holy Ghost is within you which He is but then you dabble in sin you you you you somehow you just can't quite find the victory somehow you keep on going back into that sin whatever it might be you know in our day in our day in our time it's many times it stems from the cell phone and and men and women both going after pornography and things they shouldn't go after if you love the world you are the enemy of God and the spirit that dwelleth in us lusts us to envy the spirit that is in us it it hates it and He won't stay if you continue in sin

[23:16] He will leave He will not stay if He's not on the throne of your heart He will not stay verse 6 but He giveth more grace wherefore He saith God resists the proud but giveth grace unto the humble God resists the proud the man that that prays to Himself the man that doesn't see His need in His heart the man that thinks he can dabble in sin and he's okay that man God resists him God resists him but He gives grace grace to the humble if we humble ourselves submit yourselves therefore to God you know if we will be effective in this life we must walk under the authority of Jesus Christ we must submit ourselves to Him we must be in submission to Him and allow the Holy Ghost to lead us and to work in our hearts and to you know to set us free if there's something that's a hindrance in our hearts laying aside every weight and the sin which has so easily beset us and run with patience the race that is set before us submit yourselves therefore to God resist the devil and he will flee from you you know you hear many people say well resist the devil and he will flee from you but if you try to resist him and you're not in submission to God you have no power to resist him draw nigh to God here's the answer here is the answer draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh to you you know it's so simple if we will draw nigh to Him

[25:38] He will come He will draw nigh to us He will meet us He will meet us He says cleanse your hands ye sinners purify your hearts ye double minded be afflicted and mourn and weep let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to heaviness humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and He shall lift you up Hallelujah 2nd Timothy Thou therefore endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ endure hardness as a good soldier not complacent you know you know the Apostle Paul here he he he talks about us being soldiers in the army of God and you know a soldier just think of what it takes to be a good soldier and then just think are you a good soldier in the army of God

[27:20] I didn't look it up but there's a verse in the Old Testament that says cursed is he that keepeth his sword from blood you know a complacent soldier has no place in the army a soldier that doesn't care a soldier that doesn't care what the enemy does is not a good soldier a soldier a soldier that when he's faced by the enemy and he he doesn't fight God says he's cursed today we face many battles today we face an enemy that is angry at the church of Jesus Christ today we face an enemy that is directly attacking us as a church let us fight the good fight of faith and lay hold on eternal life strive

[28:34] Romans there's so many verses not sure not sure which ones to go to Romans 15 verse 30 now I beseech you brethren for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake and for the love of the spirit that ye strive to gather with me in your prayers to God for me that I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judea and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints that I may come unto you with joy by the will of God and may be with you may with you be refreshed now the God of peace be with you all here the apostle Paul you know I had mentioned before that Paul was a was a man of prayer and Paul requested prayer prayer of the churches many times and here he says

[29:43] I beseech you brethren I beseech you brethren and not for my sake and not for your sake but for Jesus Christ's sake and for the love of the spirit that you strive together with me in your prayers to God for me he was requesting prayer and not just that you just say a prayer no but that you strive with me in prayer that we fight the good fight of faith in prayer striving against the enemy fighting the enemy that's what he was asking for that they stand with him that they stand with him in prayer that he might that he might be able to come and have success in chapter 12 here in

[30:49] Romans verse 12 let's start in verse 9 let love be without dissimulation abhor that which is evil cleave that which is good be be kindly affection one to another with brotherly love in honor preferring one another not slothful in business fervent in spirit serving the Lord rejoicing in hope patient in tribulation continuing instant in prayer distributing to the necessity of the saints given the hospitality you know continuing instant in prayer praying always pray without ceasing you know there's so many of those little phrases and we read over them so often but they mean something they mean exactly what they say continuing instant in prayer he's taking for granted that we are instant in prayer that we pray without ceasing that we stand with him that we stand together in prayer believing

[32:14] God in Romans 1 9 he says that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers without ceasing you know when Jesus returns will he find persistent faith or will he find a people that have ceased to pray and ceased to trust making request if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you verse 11 for I long to see you that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift to the end ye may be established amen hallelujah you know the apostle

[33:28] Paul I believe I believe he he he lived a life of prayer he lived his strength came from his walk with God and his prayer and his communion with with God almighty full of the holy ghost you know let's I want to spend a little time in Philippians let's go there now Philippians 1 Paul and

[34:28] Timotheus the servants of Jesus Christ to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi with the bishops and deacons grace be unto you and peace from God our Father from the Lord Jesus Christ I thank my God upon every remembrance of you always in every prayer of mine for you all making requests with joy for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now being confident of this very thing that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ even as it is meet for me to think this of you all because I have you in my heart in as much as both in my bonds and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel ye all are partakers of my grace notice he says

[35:33] I have you in my heart I believe that he's saying he carries them in his heart and he prays for them continually for God is my record how greatly I longed after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ and this I pray that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment that ye may approve things that are excellent that ye may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ unto the glory and praise of God now notice his prayer and what he says that he's praying for them he says he prays that their love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment and he prays that in verse 10 that ye may approve things that are excellent do we approve things that are excellent and do we disapprove the things that are not excellent that ye may be sincere and without offense till the day of

[37:09] Christ and that you may be full of the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ to the glory and the praise of God almighty hallelujah hallelujah you now let's go on we'll just skip on over to 19 for I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer now he's recognizing that they are praying for him and the supply of the spirit of Jesus Christ according to my earnest expectation and my hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed but that with all boldness as always so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body whether it be by life or by death for to me to live is Christ and to die is gain but if I live in the flesh that is the fruit of my labor yet what I shall choose

[38:24] I want not for I am in a straight betwixt two having a desire to depart and be with Christ which is far better nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you and at this point he says to abide in the flesh is more needful for you and yes he wrote him a letter but I believe he recognized that praying for them was having an effect and you know today as we pray we're not limited but we can pray for anyone and anything all across this world and be effective amen and having this confidence I know that I shall abide and continue with you with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith that your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus

[39:29] Christ for me by my coming to you again only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ and whether I come and see you or else be absent I may hear of your affairs that ye stand fast in one spirit with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel you know here again he uses that word striving striving and you know the modern feel good church they don't like that word striving they they don't see they think that oh it's just the glory road to heaven and you know God the grace of God will overlook whatever sin we live in and we'll just have a good life here and we'll just live for ourselves and in the end God will take us to glory it's not that way but if we will be true and if we will be the church of Jesus

[40:34] Christ we will face opposition from the enemy and he will come and attack and we must having done all to stand stand stand firm and faithful striving together for the faith of the gospel he says stand fast in one spirit hallelujah the unity of the brethren and then verse 28 in nothing terrified by your adversaries you know that's what the devil tries to do he comes and he tries to bring terror he tries to scare us he tries to get us discouraged he tries to get us to give up he tries to get us to draw back but we are not of those that draw back but we are of those that continue on to the saving of the soul in nothing terrified by your adversaries if we stand fast in the power of the spirit of God and we strive together for the faith of the gospel in the unity of the Holy

[41:46] Ghost then the enemy will not be able to terrify us which is to them if he can if he can scare us if he can terrify us if he can get us to draw back it is an evident token of perdition but to you of salvation and that of God for unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ not only to believe on him but also to suffer for his sake having the same conflict which he saw in me and now here to be in me Hebrews 4 16 says to come boldly to the throne of grace come boldly not fear not draw back we have access to the throne of God let us come boldly to the throne of grace endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus

[42:48] Christ oh hallelujah 2 Thessalonians he wrote he said brethren pray for us that the word of God may have free course and that we would be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men you know the apostle Paul he knew that even his physical life depended upon prayer and upon the power of God and ours does too let's turn you to Ephesians chapter 6 I'd like to read the verse that I quoted and get it right it's in 1st

[43:57] Timothy 6 11 12 but thou man of God flee these things and follow after righteousness godliness faith love patience meekness fight the good fight of faith lay hold on eternal life life you'll make give diligence to make your calling and election sure if we will be victorious if we will overcome it will not come because we were sitting on the easy chair and we'll coast into heaven no but it is because we were striving and fighting for the kingdom of God

[45:10] Ephesians 6 finally my brother be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers against the rulers of the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in high places we are fighting we are in a war we are in a war and we're not fighting against flesh and blood yes there's men and women that come against us there's men and women that will lie about us there's men and women that the devil will use but our battle our war is against is against principalities and powers the rulers of the darkness of this world the rulers you know

[46:15] Satan sends his best forces against the church any church that is overcoming is a threat to the enemy and he does not take it lightly but he sends his very best against us wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all to stand stand therefore he says that that we may be able to withstand in the evil day you know we face that evil day we're in that evil day you know it it comes in waves and and we've had a wave or a few waves the last while again but the enemy comes against us and and he the apostle hears

[47:20] God through the apostle through the holy ghost he warned us that we must have the whole armor of God why that we can stand in the evil day that we can stand when that when that attack hits stand therefore having your loins skirt about with truth you know we won't spend a lot of time on these as we go through here but you all know if that the only way that we can stand is on truth the word of truth the gospel the bible this word is truth the spirit of God is the spirit of truth and the only way that we can stand is to stand in truth having done all to stand stand therefore and if you know where you stand then you don't have to give way when the enemy hits loins skirt about with truth the breast plate of righteousness the righteousness of Jesus

[48:28] Christ being honest with him not being this man that didn't have any needs no but walking in humility with our savior the righteousness of Jesus Christ your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace are you prepared are you prepared to take this gospel to whoever God puts before you as you go about your work as you go about your life every day and you meet people out there are you prepared to share with them a reason of the hope that dwells within you are you prepared to share the gospel of Jesus Christ can you lead a soul to the cross to salvation above all taking the shield of faith wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked faith knowing where you stand knowing that that that we stand in him and knowing that he will carry us through knowing that that we are we are in his hand we are in his care and no matter what happens you know having the faith that even if we lose this physical life we are only translated to a better one hallelujah like the apostle said to me to live is Christ and to die is gain hallelujah do we have the faith of Jesus

[50:33] Christ do we rest in him do we rest in him and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit which is the word of God do you do you know this word have you hidden this word in your heart have you hidden this word in your heart if you've hidden it in your heart then when that time comes the holy ghost will bring that word he will bring the word that you need to share he will bring that word yes the sword of the spirit at the right time the right word praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints praying always praying always with all prayer with all supplication praying praying for each other praying for the ministry praying for the lost praying for whoever

[52:08] God will put on your heart praying standing striving in prayer faithful in prayer prayer in the spirit praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit led by the spirit of God the spirit within you praying and bringing bringing intercession to the throne of God watching thereunto with all perseverance perseverance you know so many times we just want to say a little prayer and that's it and then we go our way we've done our duty is that perseverance let me just ask you is that perseverance is that striving in prayer and supplication for all saints and for me here is again in many places we find

[53:43] Paul requesting prayer for himself and we need much prayer and for me that utterance may be given unto me that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel for which I am an ambassador in bounds that therein I may speak boldly as I ought to speak you know isn't it amazing even even the apostle Paul asking for boldness you know of all men of all people I would have thought he had boldness I would have thought it'd be natural for him and especially at this point in his life but he still sees his need for boldness boldness first Corinthians chapter nine if we will fight the good fight of faith and lay hold on eternal life if we will persevere in prayer if we will if we will live this life first

[55:10] Corinthians chapter nine verse twenty four know ye not that they which run in a race run all but one receiveth the prize so run that ye may obtain and I got good news for you we can all win the prize not just one of us but all of us can win the prize and every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown but we an incorruptible I therefore so run not as uncertainly so fight I not as one that beateth the air but I keep under my body and bring it into subjection lest that by any means when I preach to others I myself should be a castaway you know just think just think with me of our beloved brother

[56:13] Paul and he's writing these things and he sees the possibility of himself drifting away but he he he tells us here that if we will win this race the only way we will win this race is if we are temperate if we have self-control if we are full of the Holy Ghost and we keep under our body this body that wants to sit in the easy chair this body that wants to shrink away from the battle this body that is always looking for the easy way out he says we must keep it under and we must bring it into subjection we must keep it under and keep it in subjection and we must continue on you know a man that will run a race he doesn't just today decide well

[57:34] I'm gonna go I'm gonna go run in the Olympics no they probably train for years before they go to a race like that and they keep under their body and they eat certain foods and they practice and they practice and they keep on and they keep on temperate in all things are we temperate in all things are we giving diligence to make our calling and election sure you know Hebrews Hebrews tells us to lay aside every weight and the sin which does so easily beset us and to run with patience the race that is set before us looking unto Jesus the author and the finisher of our faith lay aside the sin but then many times we struggle with laying aside those weights laying aside whatever hinders laying aside whatever keeps us from the word of
