We are serving. This morning, hopefully this message will help us in that we have an anchor.
We are serving our way.
You know, if we have that anchor that does not move, we can stand and we know where we stand. This morning, you can turn to Isaiah chapter 40.
I'll be spending some time there and be reading, quoting quite a few other scriptures also.
I want to start with the very last verse in this chapter and then we'll go back and look at more of this chapter. They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.
They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary. They shall walk and not faint. They that wait upon the Lord.
And what's he saying in that? And we'll be looking at that as we continue on. They that wait upon the Lord. What does it mean to wait on the Lord?
What does it mean? And I believe it means much of its meaning is that we trust him in every situation of life. Another verse in Psalms says, Be still and know that I am God.
You know, in our modern age, I think it's hard for people to be still. It's hard for people to meditate on God and lay everything else aside.
We're so bombarded with everything else. And here in our land, if we have a need, we'll figure out a way to overcome it.
We'll go to fill that need. But can we, can we in the trials of life, can we, do we know that we have an anchor that we can trust in?
In Philippians, it says, be careful for nothing. You know, in whatever situation we find ourselves, be careful for nothing.
Don't let it consume you. Don't let it, don't be worried or fret. But in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.
And when we do this, when we commit everything to him, like Timothy says, he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Do we trust him? Do we know that he is able? What are we committing to him? You know, if we have areas in our life that we do not commit to him, then what?
The next verse here says, and the peace of God, after we, after we bring everything to him in prayer, then the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
What a wonderful promise when we commit our life to him. In Peter, it says, casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you.
In Hebrews 11, it says, without faith it is impossible to please him. But when we come to him and we commit our life to him and we commit our future to him and we commit our trials to him, what are we doing?
We are saying, yes, Lord, I trust you. I believe that you can. I believe that you will. As I walk with you, as I commit myself to you, you will reward me for what I have committed to you.
Now, in Isaiah, you know, when we think of this, of God and who this God is that we are committing our life to.
And I look here in Isaiah 40, talks here about the greatness of our God.
We'll start. Verse 6 says, All flesh is grass, all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field.
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, because the Spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it. Surely the people is grass, but grass withereth, the flower fadeth.
But the word of our God shall stand forever. You know, we are used to here in this life, we're used to in the spring, things grow and they sprout up and everything turns green.
And then it grows and it produces and in the fall, it dies again. And some, you know, it varies with what the plant is. It varies with what is.
And in our seasons of life, we see things come and go and so on. But the word of our God shall stand forever.
You can bank on that. You can stand on this. And you can trust this word. And you can know that it will not change.
You can know that it will stand forever. And it will be a firm foundation for your life. Who is this God that we can trust in this way?
Let's start reading in verse 10. Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand and his arm shall rule for him.
Behold, his reward is with him and his work before him. He shall feed his flock like a shepherd.
He shall gather the lambs with his arm and carry them in his bosom and shall gently lead those that are with young.
He's talking about our Savior. He is our shepherd. And it says he will feed us. He will feed his flock.
He will gather us in his arm. He will care for us. And he will gently lead us and be with us. And then verse 12.
Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and meted out heaven with a span and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance.
You know, he's talking about our God here. And these things are so great and so far beyond our comprehension that we don't even, we can't begin to comprehend the greatness of a God that can measure the waters of the ocean in the hollow of his hand.
Or the heavens with a span. Or the dust of the earth. Who hath directed the spirit of the Lord?
Or being his counselor hath taught him? We know the answer. No one. No one taught our God. We did not tell him, no, I think you ought to do it this way.
Or you need to. No. Our God is the eternal God. He's the eternal God. And there's none other like him.
With whom took he counsel? And who instructed him? And taught him in the path of judgment? And taught him knowledge? And showed to him the way of understanding?
Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket. And are counted as the small dust of the balance. Behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.
And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn. No, the beasts are of sufficient for a burnt offering. All nations before him are as nothing.
And they are counted to him less than nothing and vanity. All the nations before him are as nothing.
The nations are as a drop of a bucket. And in that little drop, we find you and I this morning. But yet, even though we are so small and so insignificant.
Yet, our God cares for us. And he leads us. He shepherds us. He takes us in his arm. And he carries us.
Yes. Yes. To whom then will ye liken God? Or what likeness will ye compare unto him?
You know, men have tried. He goes on. He talks about men who make idols. And they make these forms, these images.
And then they bow down and they worship them. But those images are nothing compared to our God. There is no one to compare with the greatness of our God.
Why do we have a problem trusting him at times? He is holy.
He is almighty. He is all-knowing. He is everywhere present. You know, there's nothing hidden from him.
He knows everything. He knows everything. He is everywhere present. Who is equal to our God? No one. No one.
Let's continue. Verse 22. It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth.
The inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers. That stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain. And spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.
That bringeth the princes to nothing. He maketh the judges of the earth as vanity. You know, he brings the princes to nothing.
The people, the rulers, those that lift themselves up and think they're somebody. They're over a kingdom and they're a big ruler in this kingdom.
But God says he brings them to nothing. Why? Because he is over them. He is above them. Yea, they shall not be planted.
Yea, they shall not be sown. Yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth. He shall also blow upon them. And they shall wither.
And the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble. You know, I'm reminded of what is that verse in Daniel.
I think it had to do with Nebuchadnezzar. And, you know, now God showed him. He said, now I know that the almighty God rules in the kingdoms of men.
This God we're talking about. Our God this morning. The one that we serve. The one that we profess to know.
The one that we say has saved us and lives in us. You know, the almighty God lives within us.
Can we comprehend that? To whom then will ye liken me? Or shall I be equal, saith the Holy One?
You know, there's so many people that lift up themselves. And we see, you know, we see rulers trying to take over.
And trying to bring people under. And all of that, you know. And all you need to do is just pay a little attention to the news.
And you'll find out. The people that are trying to take over. And become big rulers in this world.
But God. But God. To whom will ye liken me? Or shall I be equal, saith the Holy One?
You know, it doesn't matter. You know, is it some king in some land? Or is it President Trump? Or is it some other ruler? Our God is over all.
Our God is above all. Our God is greater than all. Not just one of them, but all of them together. Father. Lift up your eyes on high.
And behold, who hath created these things? That bringeth out their host by number. Now he challenges us to look at the heavens. And to look at what is up there.
And all the stars. And last night the moon was so bright. But the stars of heaven. Who created them?
Our God created them. And says, he brings out their host by number. He knows the number of the stars. He calleth them all by names.
By the greatness of his might. For that he is strong in power. Not one faileth. Why saith thou, O Jacob?
And speakest, O Israel. My way is hid from the Lord. And my judgment is passed over from my God. Now he's coming down to our level.
Now he's starting to talk to us again. Yes, he addresses this to Israel. But let's take this personal today. Are we saying this?
Many people say this. They don't maybe outright say it with their lips. But they live their life this way. My way is hid from the Lord.
You know, you can hide nothing from our God. You can hide nothing. You can whisper something in the closet. And the Bible says, He will be shouted from the housetops.
You can hide nothing from our God. My way is hid from the Lord. And my judgment is passed over from my God.
Judgment according to works. You know, our works are not hidden from God. And someday we will give an account for our works.
For our words. For the things that we have done in this life. And God knows it all. Hast thou not known?
Hast thou not heard? That the everlasting God. The Lord. The creator of the ends of the earth. This is the one. This is again another description of our God.
He is the everlasting God. He is the Lord. He is the creator of everything. Of the ends of the earth. He created everything. And then it says, This great God.
He fainteth not. Neither is he weary. He does not become weary. Though millions of people call upon him at the same time.
He does not become weary. He does not turn us away because he's tired. No. There is no searching of his understanding.
You know, the things that we've read. The things we've talked about here. You know, there's no searching of his understanding. There's no way we can comprehend.
All of God and his greatness. And his awesome power. And his awesome glory. But notice.
He giveth power to the faint. He giveth power to the faint. You know, when we wait upon him. Well, let's just read these verses.
He giveth power to the faint. And to them that have no might. He increases strength. He increases strength. Even the youth shall faint and be weary.
And the young men shall utterly fall. But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. They shall run and not be weary.
They shall walk and not faint. This great God that we've been talking about. That we've been trying to describe in such a little way.
You know, this great God. He says he gives power to the faint. You know, if we feel. You know, at times we feel faint. At times we feel weak.
At times we're in the valley. And we're in the middle of the battle. And we feel so insufficient. But in our God.
There is sufficiency. And he says he gives power to the faint. To those that have no might. He increases strength.
You know, when we. When we. Wait upon our God. When we wait upon him. We come to him. And we just lay ourselves down before him.
It says he will renew our strength. He will renew our strength. He will revive us. If we will. If we will just give ourselves to him.
He will revive us again. And he will. And he will. Build us up. And he will make of us. The person. The man.
The woman. The woman. He wants us to be. If we will. But surrender our whole life to him. They shall mount up with wings as eagles.
You know, we. We have eagles here. And then we. We. I'm sure we've all watched eagles. And. And how they soar. And. And. And how they go. And. So.
You know. They're an awesome bird. Yes. Yes. It says they shall run. And not be weary. They shall walk.
And not faint. God wants to give us. His supernatural strength. To walk this walk. That we might be strengthened.
Even as. Even as. The apostle Paul wrote. That we might be strengthened. With his might. In the inner man. Yes. And God is able.
God is able. If we will but meet the conditions. If we will walk with him in humility. If we will humble ourselves before him.
And. And just allow him. To take over. And. And to. To empower us. He fainteth not.
He is not weary. The all. All. Just think of this. The all powerful God. Gives power. To the faint. He gives power.
To humanity. He strengthens us. He wants us. He wants us. To be effective. In his kingdom. Not in our own strength.
But in his strength. In his power. You know. He says here. Even the youth. Shall faint. And be weary. You know. In our natural strength.
We faint. And we are weary. And we. We're tired. But in the spiritual. If we are. If we are going. By the power of our God.
If we are strengthened. With his might. In the inner man. Our strength. Will be renewed. And we can. We can go forth. As eagles. He is able.
Yes. He is able. To keep. That which I've committed. Have we committed. Everything. Everything. To him. Proverbs says.
Trust in the Lord. With all thine heart. And lean not. On thine own. Understanding. You know. We've all leaned. On things. That didn't hold.
We've all leaned. On things. That gave way. And fell over. That's what. Our own strength. And our own understanding. Will do to us. It will let us down.
But if we trust. In the Lord. If we trust. In the Lord. With all our heart. We will have. A firm. Stable. Foundation. Psalm 55.
22. Says. Cast thy burden. Upon the Lord. And he. Shall sustain thee. If we cast. Our burden. Upon him. You know.
I believe. You know. We. God knows. Our need. He knows. Where we're at. He knows. What we're going through. But he wants us. To come to him.
You know. I. I won't turn to it. But in Ezekiel. There's. There's a chapter. That. That has. A long list. Of promises. A long list.
Of promises. And at the end. Of it all. There's this little verse. That says. Yet. For all this. Will I be inquired for. In other words.
These promises. They are yours. However. If you don't ask. For them. You won't receive them. And I believe. It is the same.
For us today. Like James says. Ye. Ye. Have not. Because ye. Ask not. Or ye. Ye. Ask.
And ye. Ask amiss. Yes. But ye have not. Because ye ask not. We. Have we. Committed our way. To him.
Have we. Committed our all. To him. He is. A worthy God. He is. Over all. He is. Above all. There's.
Verses. That say. That if. Those. That trust. Trust in him. Will not be. Put to shame. I believe. What it's saying. Is that when we trust in him.
He will not let us down. When we trust in him. We will not end up. Shame. Because he let us down.
No. But our God is faithful. Our God is faithful. faithful. And he will sustain us. Yes.
Yes. He is our rock.
Yes. You know. I. There's a few verses. In Deuteronomy. And I'm going to turn to him. So I get him right. Deuteronomy. 32.
And verse 4. He is the rock. And his work. Is perfect. For all his ways.
Are judgment. A God of truth. And without iniquity. Just. And right. Is he. He is.
The rock. He is our firm foundation. He is the one. That. That when we. When. When we have our anchor.
Cast. And it's a hole of that rock. It will not move. This rock. That we're talking about. This morning. He is the rock.
Our God. Is a rock. His work. Is perfect. God's work. Is perfect. Yes.
For all. His ways. Are judgment. You know. When. When God. Arrives. There's judgment. At which is. At which is. Of. Of God.
Is God. And at which is. Self. Will be. Must be. Crucified. Yes. A God. Of truth. And without. Iniquity. Just and right.
Is he. Now in the next chapter. Is this verse. That. Is. So familiar. The eternal God. In verse 27.
The eternal God. Is thy refuge. And underneath. Are the everlasting arms. The eternal God. Is our refuge. Have we fled.
To him. For refuge. And do we. Trust. Those everlasting arms. Everlasting arms. Our God.
Is from eternity past. And he will be. For eternity. The everlasting arms. Are we. Do we have those arms. Upholding us.
A God of truth. And without. Iniquity. That is who he is. In Psalm 62.
Here we have the psalmist. In such a wonderful. Wonderful. Portion here. Psalm 62.
Verse 1 and 2. Truly my soul. Waiteth upon God. From him. Cometh my. Salvation. He only. Is my rock. And my.
Salvation. He is my. Defense. I shall not. Be greatly. Moved. And then. A few. Verses.
Later. Verse 6. He only. Is my rock. And my. Salvation. He is my defense.
I. Shall not. Be moved. In God. Is my salvation. And my glory. The rock. Of my strength. And my. Refuge. Is in God.
Trust in him. All. At all times. Ye people. Pour out your heart. Before him. God. Is a refuge. For us. Think about this.
You know. David. Didn't he know this. As well. Or better. Than anyone. Remember.
There. You know. When. When they came back. To Siglag. And the city was burned. And the. And the families. Were all taken captive. And. And the men.
Started talking about. About stoning. David. And. What does the Bible. Tell us. It tells us. That David. Encouraged himself. In the Lord.
David. Knew. What he was talking. About here. God. He only. Is my rock. And my salvation. You know. Even his friends.
Turned against him. At times. But God. Was his defense. And he says. I shall not. Be moved. He is. The rock. Of my strength.
And my refuge. And he admonishes us. In verse 8. Trust in him. At all times. Ye people. Us today.
Trust in God. At all times. No matter. What comes. Our way. No matter. No matter. What we face. No matter. No matter.
What comes. We can trust. In our God. We can trust. We can trust. In him. But it is always.
It is always. Human tendency. To trust in self. You know.
I have a few. Examples. Here. Of men. I don't think. We'll. Turn to them. Necessarily.
But. You know. Saul. Was one. That. When. When Samuel. Made him. King. When he anointed him. He told him.
Now you. You go your way. But. I don't have it. Word for word. But. Says there. There. There will come a time.
And you wait. Seven days. And I will come. And do an offering. I will make an offering. Well the time came.
That the Philistines. Were. Overrunning the land. And Saul. He had his army. But the people. Were forsaking him. And hiding in the caves.
And. And all of that. Because. Because of the enemy. And. Saul waited.
Seven days. And finally. He said. Well. Samuel's not coming. Bring the. Bring the offering here.
And we'll offer the burned offering. And he did. And he was not more than done. Samuel shows up. You know.
Saul. Just didn't wait. Quite long enough. Samuel told him. Now you have done foolishly. And because you've done this. The kingdom will be taken away.
And given to another man. Because God is looking for a man. After his own heart. Well Samuel made excuses.
He said. You know. I waited seven days. And the people were scattered from me. And I. I had to do this. But the day wasn't over yet.
And Samuel did come. Just like he had said. And. There's an account of King David.
The Philistines had come. And they. They. They came. They came against David. And David inquired of the Lord.
And said. Shall I go after this host? And God said. Yes. Go after them. Surely I will deliver them into your hand.
And they did. And there was a great victory that day. Sometime later. The Philistines came again.
You know. And wouldn't it be. Human tendency. Well. You know. We did. We did it this way last time. We'll go after them. We'll go the same way again. But no.
David inquired of the Lord. And what did the Lord say? No. You don't go up. Against them. But you go around over. To the mulberry trees there. And you just wait there.
Until. Until I tell you. You will hear. A sound of. Of a going. A sound of the wind. In the. In the leaves. And then you go. Because then.
I will go before you. And that's what they did. And again. They had a great victory. That day. Why? Because David. Waited upon the Lord.
And he was obedient. To the word of the Lord. And when they went into battle. The Lord went before them. You know.
Isn't that so many times. Our own problem. Is we try. To do things. In our own strength. And we do not. Wait upon the Lord.
And allow him. To go before us. Isaiah. Isaiah 26.
Isaiah 26. 1-4. In that day. Shall this song. Be sung. In the land of Judah. We have a strong city. Salvation. Will God appoint.
For walls. And bulwarks. Open ye. The gates. That the righteous nation. Which keepeth the truth. May enter in. Thou will keep him.
In perfect peace. Whose mind. Is stayed on thee. Because he trusteth. In thee. Trust ye. In the Lord. Forever.
Forever. For in the Lord. Jehovah. Is everlasting. Everlasting. Strength. You know. There's a verse. Where is it? Not sure. I probably have it.
In my notes. Somewhere. But. Let the peace. Of God. Rule in your hearts. To the which also. Ye are called. And be thankful. Here he says.
God. God. God. Will keep us. In perfect peace. If our mind. Is stayed on him. If we. Trust in him.
If we keep our eyes. Focused upon him. And we trust in him. He says. Trust ye. In the Lord. Forever. For in the Lord.
Jehovah. Is everlasting. Strength. You know. We might. We might. Gather strength.
Elsewhere. But it's not. Everlasting. And it will. Let us down. I have a little saying.
Here. That I copied out. If you worry. You don't trust. And if you trust. You don't worry. Very simple. I believe it is true.
In Psalm 46. It says. Be still. And know. That I am God. Trust in the Lord.
With all thy heart. And lean not. On thy own understanding. Cast thy burden.
Upon the Lord. And he. Shall sustain thee. Verse five. For he bringeth down.
Them that dwell on high. The lofty city. He layeth it low. He layeth it low. Even to the ground. He bringeth it even to the dust. The foot shall tread it down.
Even the feet of the poor. And the steps of the needy. The way of the just. Is uprightness. Thou most upright. Doest weigh the path.
Of the just. Yea. In the way of thy judgments. O Lord. Have we waited for thee. The desire of our soul. Is to thy name.
And to. The remembrance. Of thee. With my soul. Have I desired thee. In the night. Yea. With my spirit. Within me. Will I seek thee early.
For when thy judgments. Are in the earth. The inhabitants. Of the world. Will learn. Righteousness. Amen.
The judgments. Of God. When they are in the earth. The inhabitants. Will learn. Righteousness. His righteousness.
Yes. You know. In. In Isaiah's day. The people. Wanted to trust. In Egypt. Instead of trusting.
In God. And. In chapter 31. In chapter 31. He says.
Woe to them. That go down to Egypt. For help. And stay on horses. And trust in chariots. Because they are many. And in horsemen.
Because they are very strong. But they look not unto the Holy One of Israel. Neither seek the Lord. You know. Isn't that human tendency.
Is to trust in. In. In. Material things. To trust in. The natural. And. And to not look to the Lord. And here he warned them.
That they were doing that. He said. Woe to those that do that. That trust in self. And trust not. In their own.
And trust not in God. In your own. I see. I believe I was at the wrong.
Chapter here. A little bit ago. No. I already read those. Trust in him.
At all times. Pour out your heart. Before him. For God is our refuge. And our strength. Amen. Amen. You know.
Then my mind also went to. Lazarus. When Jesus. When they called Jesus.
And they said. Lazarus is sick. Can you come? Can you come heal him? Can you come heal him?
Well Jesus. Didn't go right away. We all know the story. And when Jesus. Got there.
He was already in the grave. Four days. You know. I like to say. Jesus. Yes. He was four days late.
But he was right on time. Right? Our God. Is never late. Jesus.
What did he say? He said. To his disciples. In verse 15. He said. Lazarus is dead.
And I'm glad. For your sakes. That I was not there. To the intent. You may believe. Nevertheless. Let us go. Unto him.
He said. I'm glad. I wasn't there. Maybe. By this. When you see this. You will believe.
Well Jesus. Got there. And Martha. Came. To meet him. And Jesus. Told her. He said. Thy brother. Shall rise.
Again. Martha. Said. In verse 24. For I know. That he shall rise. Again. In the resurrection. At the last day. But Jesus. Said.
Unto her. I am. The resurrection. And the life. He that believeth. In me. Though he were dead. Yet. Shall he live. And whosoever.
Liveth. And believeth. In me. Shall never die. Believest. Thou. This. You know. How do we know Jesus? Do we know him? Do we know him?
As a resurrection. And the life. Do we know him? As the son. Of the almighty God. The God. That we've been talking about. All morning.
This great. Eternal. Almighty. Everywhere. Present. All knowing God. Do we know Jesus? That he is.
The son. Of God. Do we know Jesus? That he is. The resurrection. And the life. And we all know the story.
Jesus stood there. And he said. Lazarus. Come forth. And the dead man came. Hallelujah.
Jesus. Jesus. He is. The resurrection. And the life. Verse 40.
Jesus said unto her. This was before he. Told Lazarus to come. He said. Said I not unto thee. That if thou wouldest believe.
Thou shouldest see. The glory of God. You know. Isn't it. The same. For us today. If we will believe. If we will believe.
We will see. The glory of God. You know. In. Earlier. Here. In. In. The book of John. There were people. That. That came.
And they asked him. What shall we do. That we might work. The works. Of God. They asked Jesus. This question. And.
And. And. What was his answer. He said. This. Is. The work of God. That ye believe. On him. Whom he has sent.
If you want to work. For God. If you want to do. The work of God. The first. And most important thing. Is to believe.
In Jesus. And to believe. Who Jesus is. To believe. That Jesus. Is the son. Of the living God. And that he came. He came.
To bring redemption. To humanity. Today. Do we believe. Do we believe. Do we believe.
In him. In this way. How is it. You know. I'm going to go. Back to. One of those verses.
Where we started. In Philippians. Philippians. Chapter 4.
Verse 6. He says. Be careful for nothing. Be careful for nothing. But in everything.
By prayer. And supplication. With thanksgiving. Let your requests. Be made known. Unto God. If we know.
This God. If we know. Our Lord Jesus. In this way. Then we can bring.
All our cares. To him. We can bring. All our. Problems. To him. You know. If we are yoked. With him. Like he.
Like he said. Where was that? In Matthew. In Matthew. He said. He said.
Come unto me. All ye that labor. And are heavy laden. And I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. And learn of me.
He welcomes us. To come. He invites us. To come. And to cast.
Our burden. Upon him. To take his yoke. You know. If we are yoked. With Christ. That means. He.
Will help us. With the load. He will help us. With the load. He says. For I am meek. And lowly.
In heart. And ye shall find rest. For your souls. Have you found that rest? Have you found that rest? In our Lord Jesus.
He says. For my yoke is easy. And my burden is light. You know. We sing that song. And have we found it that way? Have we.
Are we yoked with him? If we will be yoked with him. It says. I am. He said. I am meek.
And lowly. In heart. And I believe that is how we need to come to him. That is how we need to be. Is meek. And lowly. In heart.
And we can. We can be yoked with him. And he will. Help us.
He will lighten our load. He will carry our load. How is it with us today? Have we come to him? Have we found him?
Have we found him? To be the all sufficient savior. He wants to be that.
To us. For us. Yes. The one. Who meets our every need. The one that we cast our burdens upon.
And he carries them. For us. With us. He carries us through. Every. Every trial of life. May the Lord bless.
